Default Block guards......are they necessary?

Ive done some research on block guards and people seem to have alot of mixed opinions about them. Ive heard alot of times they get installed incorrectly and cause the cylinders to egg shape and alot of overheating problems, some like them some dont. Im building a 350-400whp single cam, my sleeves are bored .5mm and was wondering if boring would make the sleeves weaker and more prone to failure? And if running a block guard would provide a little more strength to them? Anyone with any info. or 1st hand experience feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance.

0.5mm overbore = 0.25mm removed from the cylinder walls. That's like the thickness of a human hair. I assure you that it won't have any adverse effects on sleeve strength.

And why are people still asking about block guards? Did we go back in time or something? Forget it - don't buy one, don't use one, and stop looking into it.

<- D16y8, 0.5mm overbore, stock sleeves -> 418whp @ 25psi.
