Nice job cleaning the block
, When my block came back from golden eagle, it looked more dirty than before. I guess they dont jet-clean the blocks. How much do you charge to clean an engine? just curious
My block is going to GE this week. Why did you go with 84.5mm vs 84? I was planning on going 84. Also what is this cometic head gasket you're referring to? They told me to use a Honda gasket and dremel the opening to size. What did you use to clean your block? Got any better pics of the sleeves? Thanks
I was only kidding, I don't clean blocks for money
A long time ago, on my old setup, I had it bead blasted. It looked better than new! But after that setup blew, removed it, broke it down, and sent it to GE, it got pretty dirty again.
To clean it, I used Aluminum Aircraft Paint Stripper. It's a paint stripper designed for aluminum, as the name states. You can pick up various brands of it at any autoparts store. All I did was spray it on nice and thick, and let it sit for 3-5 minutes, scrubbed with a wire brush for the really dirty areas, then rinse. Make sure you where gloves when you do this, as it uses the same **** that removed tile flooring, pretty nasty stuff. When you spray it on, it actually foams and turns gelatinous, and has the consistancy of, well, use your imagination. It will chemically burn your hands though, so be careful.
After rinsing, simply blow it dry with compressed air. Voila! Done

Cometic is a maker of gaskets and such for motorcycles, really high quality stuff. They are now doing import head gaskets also. I am using a GSR block, with the oil passage in the block. So, I couldn't use a Honda head gasket without modifying it. Cometic makes a large bore VTEC block head gasket, with the proper location for the oil passage and dowel pin locations. It's a tri-metal gasket, just like the OEM gasket, stock thickness and all. I would definately recommend it, it's a real nice piece, and priced at about 65 bucks. I got mine from Endyn, but if you're a hater, you can also get it from http://www.raceeng.com.
Here's a better pic of the sleeves:

What are those two "nipples" on the back of the block?

Remember, this is a GSR block, which has an oil cooler. Thats one of the feed lines for the coolant to the oil cooler. The other is apart of the PCV system.
does home depot have aluminum aircraft paint stripper?
edit: n/m i saw the "any autoparts store" guess i'll buy some for my tranny.

I don't understand. You said you are using a GSR block with the oil passages in it so you couldn't use the Honda gasket without modifying it. What head are you using? And why won't it work? Thanks for the pic.
