bigger open downpipe question

i currently run a 2.5" open downpipe and i was wondering if there would be any gain from upgrading to a 3" dp... would the increase in diameter give any gains since its already unrestricted?

i lost 17 whp by adding a magnaflow sraight through muffler and about 4 feet of piping, so anything that free's up the exhaust only helps.
