Big oil filters?
I dont know if you guys already know this, but an oil filter from a late 80s Mitsubishi Montero with the 2.6L 4 cylinder uses a huge oil filter with the same threads and 0 ring sizes as our cars. It is much larger too. I opened one up and there is nearly double the amount of filter media in it I beat the hell out of my boosted GSR so I like the added insurance of the big filter.
The Mobil 1 part # is M1-105 I don't think it will fit if you use a big Tee thing for your turbo feed but otherwise it fits back there. Happy boosting!

No drop in pressure that I could see. I do run a shimmed oil pump relief spring as well as an external oil cooler.
FWIW, the new Honda filters are freaking tiny. You could use the S2000 filter which is the same size as the old B series one but Mobil make a superior filter anyways. The Honda ones are mostly made by Filtech anyways, which tend to suck.

Interesting! What store did you actually get it from?
And I guess I missed something a while back with the S2000 filters, I didn't know bigger was better for oil filters.

No sir, idle and redline is just exactly what it was before.
I got the filter from Autozone Larger isn't necessarily always better, but in the case of a boosted Honda I figure more filtration capacity is better.

Your a dumbass if you think you have a S2000 filter on your car. The threads are different.

Why are you arguing this? You are WRONG. They are both 20x1.5 threads. I have S2000 filters on a B18C1 motor and a D16Z6 motor that I own, not to mention the countless customers motors I use these filters on. Now get the **** out of my thread.

Re: Big oil filters? (nfn15037)
I would just like to confirm that some oil pressure is lost when using a honda oil filter...at least the new filtech ones.
I normally use Mobile 1 filters too, but the local store that carrys em was sold out so I bought an OEM b16a2 filter to use on my b18c1.
I did notice a slight, maybe 5 psi, drop in idle oil pressure.
I think I may try an S2k filter next.

Re: Big oil filters? (nfn15037)
Thats funny ****.
Yeah as for the S2K filter, that filter was used across the entire model line until two seasons ago when someone figured they could save a couple of pennies by making the smaller ones and selling them for the same price. The only filter that will not work and is vehicle specific is the insight filter which has already been previously mentioned.

Re: Big oil filters? (2000civicsi)
I still have a **** load of those old big filter that they use to have. I ordered like 60 filters. I think I can still get those big ones from my dealer.

Re: Big oil filters?
I've been told by a person or two that the newer smaller filters have the same size filter elements as the bigger ones. The "empty" volume was just decreased. Im going to cut apart one and check this out myself after my next oil change.

i ran the oem small filter for a bit then went to fram (cuz dealersip was closed) and i noticed that with the oem filter me readings were
cold idle - 75psi
warm idle - 25psi
cruise above 3000rpm - 60psi
where as my larger fram filter readings were
cold idle - 60psi
warm idle - 25psi
cruise above 3000rpm - 50psi
does the small difference in psi actually make a difference ??
the only thing i can think of is if it blows thru the turbo seals
cold idle - 75psi
warm idle - 25psi
cruise above 3000rpm - 60psi
