Default big black box

i'll post a pic tomorrow but on my em1, i was installing the endyn breather kit and noticed the large black canister thing mounted to the firewall with some vac lines connected to it. what is this exactly and can i remove it? it looks to me like some sort of vac recirculation unit or something. i don't know. it takes up a lot of space. thanks

well, i don't have emission checks here in FL. so i'm gonna pull it out. just wondering how i should run the vac lines. i wanna get rid of as much as i can so it looks cleaner too. gonna do a wire tuck sort of too.

stupid question, i am assuming you are running obd1, if so you are cool, but if you are still obd2 you will get a CEL if you take it out.

I ran without one for a while, OBD1, I rehooked it back up recently and the car idles a lot smoother with it hooked up.
