Default Best Turbo For LS/Vtec, Forged internals-Stock Sleeves

I had one of the cheap SSAC 57 trim turbos on my car last summer.. Stock b16 tuned with uberdata and i made 241whp and 167 ft/lbs...

That turbo blew up on me and started shootin oil through to the exhaust side of the turbo.. So, when i decided to build my b18 bottom end and do an LS/Vtec Setup, I i decided to get a better turbo at the same time.

my plans are:
B18 block
JE 9.0:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods
Arp Head Bolts
GSR Cams

What do you guys recommend.. Im aiming for about 300-350 whp...

Also, Do you guys recommend goin with a 3' Catback... Or is 2.5 sufficient.. Ive been thinkin about goin with the 3' from the turbo back..

a real garret 57 or 60 trim t3/t04e will get you 300-350whp no problem.

everyone is going to reccomend a 3" exhaust no matter what.......but its up to you if you can handle the noise....

pick up a nice holset hx35...def will be everything your looking for...1) very easy to come by & cost effective...2) a nice big turbo thats spools up hella fast..

i love my hx35 on my lsvtec...full boost at 4k w/ a 3" dp & exh....and plenty of top end power...

i have my stock exh on my whip w/ a 3" dp w/ ecutout....even w/ the tiny stock exh....i hit full boost around 45-4800....and at 15psi..thign things just rips...open up the ecutout...cars gets about 100x meaner....fast spool and way more power....you can choke this turbo and it will still perform...but youll def need a nice 3" exh or cutout to hit your mark of 300+

You don't need a 3" exhaust to make 300WHP. People have made over 600 on a 2.5" exhaust. Just a little FYI, but it will be a little "easier" with a 3" or e-cutout.

yep, or if you're ballin a little more, the sc34.

i have a very similar setup
ls/vtec
wiseco 9:1
eagle rods
b16 head/gsr cams
arp headstuds.

this turbo is fine. 300-350 is nicely in the middle of the efficiency, you should see it at around 12-13 psi give or take.

i went with the ecutout , but my other choice was the kteller 3" catback with the magnaflow muffler.

i got mine used from the classifieds here for 375 shipped i think. if you are looking for new, just keep an eye in the sponsor classfieds for forced induction. sometimes real good h-t discounts pop up. i think they probably go for 500ish new

I say just get the GT42R. Sure you're goals are 300-350, but that turbo will just give you a little room to grow if you choose.

dont you think that turbo is a little to big for his goals, those turbos are rated at 700hp,a gt3040r will do the job way better then a gt42r.

true it is a "little" haha more laggy, but always keep in mind that boost is addictive and most likely he will want more in the near future. But ok, if the 42 is too big and laggy go with a GT40R This one will also give you a "little" bit of room to grow

ok in all seriousness I was joking about the 40 & 42....that is way too big for street applications. However the 35 isn't really that big. ^^^Why do you think it is too big? The GT35R spools around 5500rpm and 3000rpm's of 500+whp is going to be really really nice.

However, if you REALLY don't think you will want more than 350whp (which I honestly find hard to swallow) then the T3/T4 .57 will do the job just fine. That is what I have currently (about to buy the 35R or bigger) and I have full boost by 4700rpm (17psi) and it's putting down 372whp right now.

by a turbo that will support your final goals...not the goals for this spring. What is your final whp goal that you want?

i personally dont agree w/ that statement. set your current goal and try to accomplish that. IF/WHEN you are not happy w/ that set up, then come up w/ a new agenda..You will be sooooo disappointed chosing a turbo that is too large for current goal...a turbo that doesnt reach full boost until almost 6 grand and shifting at 8 is not fun, trust me..Get a turbo to meet your current goals and you'll be happy

if a final goal is to have 800hp and run mid 9's should u get that turbo now even though that goal is still a long way away
