Default BEST turbo for d16z6

did a search... came up with nothing.

what would be the best turbo for a d16z6 pushing around 200 on low boost (daily) 300 on high boost (weekends)

witht that in mind I have a garrett turbo .42/.48, was thinking about upgrading it or just selling it and getting another turbo, so that brings me back to the question, which turbo do you guys think will work the best? I have plotted some #'s against the Turbonetics T3 60 series and super 60 series looked perfect.

reccomend me a good turbo and a good seller

Garret t3/t4oe 50 trim with .48a/r housing, stage 3 blade. Check out cheapturbo.com for the turbo.

The mitsu 14b is also a nice turbo for a sohc. Thats what I'm using. Check out some basic specs above.

thanks, I will probably be going with the T3/TO4E 50 trim, you guys take a look at the compressor map above and tell me what you think, also what kind of spooling can I expect off of this turbo .48exhaust side?

I run a to4e/3 with 46 trim and .48 A/R and stage 3 exhaust. It spools at 3200 RPM. I don't recommend this turbo though because it's way to easy to get into boost and get into trouble

Nice answer

My goals are somewhat similar to yours man.
I've got a D16z6 block soon to be sleeved, and was planning on shooting for 300hp as well. I've been considering different turbo's as well,,,and i'm looking at a T3/To4e 50 trim, .48 Hotside.. not sure about the compressor though...
I dont mind if i hit full boost around 4500rpms really...because i know traction will be an issue...

The 50 trim compressor flow around 44 lb/min compared to the 57 trim which flows 50 lb/min and 60 trim which flows 52 lb/min. When you are choosing a compressor map you need to keep a few things in mind:

1. What is going to be my horsepower goals?
2. What is going to be my maximum peak horsepower rpm?
3. What is going to be my spool up goals?

The 50 trim compressor will support around 300whp with the .48a/r hotside, and spool up around 3500rpm with 3" dp and 3" exhaust.

The 57 trim compressor will support around 325whp with the .48a/r hotside, and make full boost around 4000rpm.

The 60 trim compressor will support around 375whp with the .48a/r hotside, and make full boost around 4500rpm.

The larger exhaust housing will free up more power, and allow for more top end on your powerband.

I am personally using a t3/t4oe 57 trim .63a/r on my GF's soon to be boost d16z6. My peak horsepower will be 8,200rpm, horsepower will be 300whp on pump and spool up will be around 4,500rpm.

that's basically what I was going for when I mapped it out, 4K rpm's is about where I would like to be in a hefty amount of boost if not fully boosted, 7200 is redline, then the 10,15,20 psi is about what I will probably have to reach my goals. at first glance the T3 looks perfect until you notice how much faster it will be spinning compared to the other two, so I will most likely be going with the T3/TO4E 50 series, I'm just real paranoid about this, 300hp is my max goals for horse power, so I don't want to be like some of these guys and slap on a HUGE turbo that starts boostin very late in the power band and some times not even reaching full boost until redline..

I run at 11 psi and I'm not sure what kind of numbers I'm putting down. I will have to wait till I go to a dyno.

Nice post boostedhybrid

I'm very concerned about what trim level i should go with as well...

I say my goal is around 300hp, but like many people have told me, you'll want more than that later on down the road. And i'm sure i'll be able to get more out of it later being that my block will be sleeved, and i'll be running hondata etc..

My big problem is, is that my redline will most likely stay at 7200. So if i go any bigger than the 57 trim, the lag will be astronomical, plus i'll have the 7200rpm redline :/

I'm going to go with the .48 hotside,,,but what A/R should i go with for the compressor? Or dont i get to pick the A/R for the compressor, meaning with a 50 trim i'll get a certain A/R and no others? As you can see, i've got a lot to learn about the compressor numbers/turbine numbers, etc.. :/

How much power do you think a D16z6 could put out, with a sleeved block (most likely GE or Darton)??
Thanks for the help, and sorry for the hi-jack, but my questions are a lot like the thread starters
Peace

The d-series can potentiallly make as much power as they can handle of boost. I plan on making a d-series race car probably in the next two years. I would need around 500-600whp to run in the 9's, pretty much the only way would be to increase the displacement to 1.8L. I would also need to fabricate a deck plate to increase the r/s for higher revving that a drag powerband needs. Anything can be done, I dont think that it would be that hard to create everything either.

you can up the redline if you get the crower valve springs/retainers and the cam. i have seent hem going on ebay and on here for like 600 bucks for the whole thing.

with that you can take it to i think 8500rpm then if you do boost like at 4000 even 4500 you will still ahve plenty of boost left. thats what i plan on getting but only revving maybe to about 8000rpm just so i don't kill the motor.
