a GT45R.

Depends on your power goals.

Staying stock or building it?
stock rods / pistons?

mostly stock to start with. but will eventually upgrade. wanting max power it can handle at a consistent rate. dont wana have to overhaul it coz sumthing goes wrong due to too much boost. thanks

Then i'd stay under 300whp.

Hmm I'd say a GT2871R or GT28RS would be perfect.

If you have a cheaper budget, Look for a SR20 T25 / T28. those would be good too.

Or one off a 300zx.

OR, if you want really quick spool with good midrange, get a K03 / K04

Yeah my budget isn't crazy. But the quicker the effect of the Turbo the better.

Set on turbo? I found a blower will give you more "usable" power thru out the whole rpm range. Supercharged b16 in a little hatch is an absolute blast.

Default Turbo or Supercharger?

What would be better turbo or supercharged? For a B16a engine.

J swap. Do the J SWAP! Then Quad turbo it.

Honestly, Turbos give more power under the curve. Which is all the rage. A supercharger reaches max boost at max RPM, right? A turbo has to spool though. In reality, a supercharger is good with a short gear transmission that revs high, but a turbo is good for a longer gear transmission that holds boost longer.

OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. It's honestly up to you. Turbo is more parts and pieces and sounds cooler. Supercharger market is limited.

Turbo>SC

Why?

SC takes power to make power... I find SC a engine as small as a 1.6 pointless as you wont get very much out of it. You will fill a nice boost in the low to mid range though and no turbo lag. SC's also have limited power. They are cheaper.Less after market support.

Turbo:Unlimited power(as long as your engine doesnt detonate.) does take spool time(depending on size) Power band is usually mid-to high. Doesn't put as much wear on the engine as a SC. With turbo you will get better MPG then SC(as long as you stay out of boost)

I say get a turbonetics T3 super .60 with a .63 ar. You would be good for 300-350 horsepower on or around max boost and still have very quick spool time.

So looking at the information you guys have given. I would say turbo would be best for the application i would be using it. Any ideas on a specific turbo. There are so many. Something with really quick spool, and high power, but wont wear the engine or any components. The optimal one for a B16a engine? Probably take it to the track and race it. But mainly just street driving.

Longevity of use. Imposing the additional power/heat/friction will have wear consequences, always does. Find-out where the weak links are in your power-plant under your planned conditions and build-up accordingly.

See, this is where research comes into play. Here are a few links for you to check out. Most if not all of your questions should be answered. If not, then you'll at least have a greater understanding and can ask the right questions.
