Default Best Turbo for 10 second 500WHP daily driver

Hi all, I have a fully built, bored and stroked h22 (2.4L) with weisco 9:1 pistons, eagle h beam rods, ported and polished head with 1mm oversized titanium valvetrain, crower stage 2 turbo cams, OBX intake manifold ported polished and machined perfect, and an equal length ramhorn manifold. The goal of this setup is going to be between 450-550 whp on pump gas + 50\50 meth injection at 7800 or less rpm around 20ish pounds of boost.

I am thinking for this setup the best turbo will be the gt30\40R with .82AR turbine and the .70AR compressor housing with ported shroud.

(more turbo info from atpturbo.com)
Dual Ball Bearing "GT30/GT40R" Turbo assembly. T3 style inlet flange with 4 bolt T31 style exit. This turbo incorporates the same exact GT40 compressor wheel found in the popular GT35/40R, but runs the smaller 60mm w/84 trim turbine wheel from the GT30R. Appropriate for smaller engine where the GT35/40R feels too big, but the high amount of compressor flow is needed for the desired HP and boost levels. Large T04S style compressor housing with 4.00 inlet and 2.50" outlet. This turbo has a flow capacity of about 600HP.

Turbine
-Wheel: 60mm w/ 84 trim
-Housing: .63 ar, .82 ar, 1.06 ar
-Maps

Compressor
-Wheel: 82mm w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .70 ar

I would just like a confirmation that this would be the ideal turbo before I order it, or if it isnt, then some suggestions on what would. Thanks!

IF thats ALL the power you want the 3076R with a .82 AR or 1.06AR will do it.

i made 520whp on about 20ish psi with a .82 76R bone stock head h22a...

I made 480whp on 92 oct pump and 17psi

The 35R might be a better choice for you tho as your stroked... 76R is absoulutly DONE at 550whp if that

If it were mine i would use a GT40, or a 3582R with the large turbine, someone will probably chime in on the BW units which are nice as well... i just dont have any experience with those

why jump all the way from a 3076 to a gt40? The GT35 is perfectly capable. Absolutely no reason to use a 700whp turbo when he's only looking for 500whp.

I'd go with a GT35R as it'll flow better up top than the 3076 without being TOO big.

my fear with using the 35r is that from what i read, they do not spool until 5500 or so, with me shifting by 7500-7800 it will make for an awfully short powerband, especially since this car is a street car first, track car second.

so what makes you think a 40r will spool faster?

a 30/40r will probably be worse than any 35r because it's a hybrid not specifically engineered to be joined as such.

A 35r will spool faster than any 40R, and the 3076R will be breathing pretty hard up top at 500whp and prolly causing some backpressure.

a 35r with an 82ar turbine spools around 4500-5000 on a 2 liter b-series, so on your motor it will spool way faster than that.. your motor should pull to 8000 rpms no problem so you'll be fine.

you can make 500 with a gt3076r but its going to choke up in the higher rpms

I am purposely limiting the rpms to around 7500 to save the trans, the motor itself should be good through 9k, but im avoiding tranny problems.

The 30\40r spools later than a 35r? can someone else confirm?

if it's a hybrid like that the wheels weren't engineered to be paired together. It's like the t25/t4 combo that was floating around, a giant compressor with a t2 turbine.......terrible match.

if youre just looking to make 500whp and not spend an *** load of cash then just go with a t3/t4 57trim .63 a/r...should get you there and be a hell of a lot cheaper. correct me if im wrong...

and you could go 10's all day long with this turbo. i guess it just depends on how much money youre looking to spend and how fast you want to go...IN THE LONG RUN. if you want mid-low 10's later on down the road then i would go with the 35r or maybe the same turbo i have. t3/t67 h.o. ... one badass turbo.

Nope sorry, 57 trims won't make over 450, and 60 trims max at 475ish. Plus, it'll be running hotter than hell. But it would spool like a motherfcker on a 2.4L H series

well i know it will run 10's all day long. lol

on that motor it MAY hit the 500whp mark...MAYBE. if not then 450-460whp would be fun as fell with the 57 trim...lol.

If you notcied i SAID IF IT WAS MY CAR!!!

35R will spool well before 5500 RPM, my 30R with a .82 is full boost right at 4k RPM, and the OP having a 2.4L will spool that 35R i would say NO later than 4700rpm

shifting early isnt gonna save your tranny, not banging gears and drag racing will!

Fact of the matter here, a 76R will get damn near any honda chassis into the 10's put a 1.06 housing on that turbo and you wont have back pressure issues, you will max out the compressor far before the turbine

/QUOTE]

well from my experience.... My friend has a del sol like me with an h22, and headwork. he shifts around 8000-8500 and he eats 2 or more trannies a year for the last 3 years. My car has been at 366whp for the same amount of time and has way more track runs and is abused way more on the day to day, and im still on my first tranny... From this experience and other research, i have found that the h trannies are pretty tough before 7500 at any power level, and fall apart at anything over in a hurry...

h2b the car... and dont worry about the tranny

but if you are keeping the revs that low then you will want a smallish a/r gt3076 and run 20-25psi out of it to make 500hp

I have a built b16a with a 57 trim making just about 450whp on a 1.6l so a 57 trim or a little bigger should do it for you. Altho i rev out to 8800

i was thinking about h2b, but everything is already cut out for the hseries so i would have to make some repairs, it would be alot of work, not to mention that there would be no way in hell to have ac which i did keep...
