Default best tranny for 479WHP

I just bought a fully built civic with 497WHP... to make a long story short im taking the full motor swap and installing it in my Type R...
right now the motor has a SIR tranny with a phatom LSD.... but i find the gears way too short since I only hit boost at 5500RPM... and redline at 10k,,,,,,

I am debating switching the tranny with my stock type R tranny before I sell my B18c5

so whats a better match for a HIGH power 25PSi motor...
a SIR tranny with a phantom LSD or a stock type R tranny...

please let me know asap since i am doing the swyap sunday!
Thanks
Tyler

SIR and ITR have the EXACT same gears. I would sell the SIR transmission and your stock ITR LSD and get a quaiffe in your ITR trans.

Yeah, because an LS transmission with 10 thousand redline would just rock on the street. 170 MPH in fourth gear, WOOOOOHOOOOO

theres no way this tranny has the same gear ratio as my type R... im doing 3700RPM at 100KPH or 64MPH.....

The tranny is stamped LSD on it,,, so now im wondering if the tranny on the car now is simply a JDM type R tranny????

I just want a longer 4th and 5th gear.... the car right now does only 235KPH at 9200RPM,,,,,

there no way i want to put a LS tranny on it,, but im debating putting a 94 GSR that I have sitting at the garage.....

sorry im a bit clueless on the new set up I bought im still waiting for the owner to give me all the bills from when he built the motor.... pretty much just a rich guy that said put every best part you can get to make the most reliable power...
his bill for the motor and labour was 50KKKK CA....

i got the whole car for 15gs so i jumped on the deal!

Tyler..

ps ill post picks soon!

The transmission in your car probably has a 4.785 FD in it then. I would just go with it, a 10 thousand rev limit on a 205/50/15 tire = 270 KM/H at the top of fifth, you don't need to go faster than that. That gearing works out nice on a 24.5 or 26 inch tall slick at the track too.

i would probably throw in a gsr tranny if traction is an issue with the higher fd tranny you have in there now. Maybe even an ls, but with a 10k rev limit i think a gsr tranny or what you have now should suit you just fine. Also phantom grip lsd's suck. I would get something better.

It might be qualify, im actually getting all the specs tomo

there no way this tranny does 270 ... and the rev limiter is set at 9500....
so im still debating with the stock USDS Type R tranny...

can it hold 500WHP???

I feel the GSR tranny is the best all around tranny. But that is just my opinion.

You can always put a LS th gear in there. That is in my opinion a great setup for a street car. ITR 1-4 and Ls 5th.

And preload the drivetrain or else you will be killing final drives.

I have a GSR too but its a 94 and my type R is a 99 so i would feel safer with a 99 tranny!

seriously tho with that kind of power they break often?

Go to a website on the internet something about b-serious or something. Anyways what you are looking for is any website or book that has ACCURATE gear ratios for all the hydro trannies. Then you can start to look at what will best suit you. It will also depend on what you are wanting to do. Drag, canyon race, etc. Then once you start to do that, you can do what I do buy a couple different trannies that may have a bad reverse or something like that (so they are not breaking the bank) then start swapping gears to allow you to get the ratio that you are looking for. You have two good trannies sitting there for a strong foundation of building off of. You can also cyro treat the gears and stuff for about $150.00. Just remember that you are pretty much taking a 250 hp stock transmission and pumping twice as much through it. 3 extra transmissions come with me to the track when I go, so if you go drag racing bring them both.

Hope this helps a little.

Unless you have a JDM ITR transmission, 6500 RPM's at your "normal highway speeds" would be 120 MPH. Even with the JDM ITR final drive that's 110 MPH. How the hell fast do you cruise at?

I don't buy into the whole LS fifth gear, other than just knocking your revs down a bit. Integra LS' were rated @ 31 MPG on the highway. GSR's? 30. ITR's? 30. I don't think it's going to make much/any difference in gas mileage, and the noise on the highway isn't even that bad with a B16 trans.

I'll tell you exactly this evening after I leave from work, but I know the gearing is usually something like double the rpms is what speed your at IE. 3500 in 5th is 70 miles an hour. and I swear that at like 70 miles and our Im at like 5500 I know I was off with the 6500 but it still just feels WAY to high for like 70mph

Since when did MPG only get calculated from 5th gear? What happened to 1-4 gears, wheel diameter, engine setup from each model?

Wheel diameter is the same, the LS has less horsepower and numerically lower gears all across the board, further proving my point. LS/GSR/ITR are all rated exactly the same in the city, and highway mileage AFAIK is calculated from solid state cruising at 60 or 65, so 1-4 doesn't matter for highway mileage.

Someone just old me that the itr/gsr/b16/ls trannies have the same 1,2 gears. slightly different 3,4,5 then a different final.

This true? Then you should use the shorter transmission with a longer final and (or, but best off with and ) 5th gear.

Okay to clear up the gear ratios...

(Y21/S21/Y80/S80/S4C) US 97-01 ITR, JDM 95-97 ITR, JDM 92-00 SiR/CTR, US 92-01 Delsol (B16A), 99+ Si coupe all have the same gear ratios EXCEPT the 99SI which has a longer 5th. All these trannys have the same 4.400 FD EXCEPT the 99SI which has a 4.266 FD (uses a final drive outa the LS). So basicly all the hydro b16a and ITR trannys are all the same.

The S80 JDM 98-01 ITR is a little different. It has a 4.785 FD, a little shorter 4th and 5th gear.

For more info...read it for yourself..

Thats not really true...but close. Most of the honda b-series trannys use a 3.230 1st and 2.105 2nd gear. However the GSR uses a different 2nd, and the Y1 uses a different first. Click that link i posted above - it will clear it all up.
