I posted this earlier and it seems like not many read it....
ebay sells a lot of homemade no-name intercoolers of various sizes. I bought one for $300 dollars, its 31 x 6 x 2.75. In/Outlets are 2.5.
31 inches long includes endtanks, this fits perfect in 96-97 civics!!
three guys I can think of are tjn115, barbiegal and auctioner1010. I bought mine from auctioner1010.
Looks great!!!
Much better looking and flowing than starion.
no cutting to anything either, fit perfect

The old volvo front mounts (really tall) with the plastic end tanks and 2.25 inch inlet/outlet work pretty well also (having a large surface area)
The saab 900 ones are an OK intercooler for low boost apps. (like under 250 hp)
The older saab 5000 ones are OK too, but i wouldn't use them for much over 250 HP or so.
What i would do if you can, is get a newer ford powerstroke deisel intercooler (the all aluminum one that's 2 inches thick) And have custom end tanks on it/cut it to fit your car.. They have a tube/fin double core, and work pretty damn well, and are cheap.

I have read that the SAAB 900 ICs are some of the worst and should be avoided even on low Hp setups. .02

wow you guys are awesome. so far wht i got out of this is that starions with some new endtanks arent bad are can actually be ideal for my low boost/hp setup. due to their surface area and thinkness.
i have heard mixed things about the supra ic, from here and other forums, same with the saab ones. how bout the wrx ic's, i fyou can find one?
the diesel powerstroke intercooler looks bad ***, but i feel that it may be too big for my setup which could lead to pressure drop and actually lose some hp.
maybe ill look into welding two dsm smic into one fmic...dont think i really need three.
thanks for all your input and plz keep posting!!!

Ive had very good luck with my starion IC.
Re-doing the endtanks is a must though, thats for sure.
Its 2-1/4" thick, so with 2-1/4" piping fabbed on, it works very well.
I measured slightly less than 1psi pressure drop with the starion IC.
Although ive never measured the intake temps, the output side of the IC
always stays ice cold even after running the car extremly hard, including
highway runs. The input side will get extremly hot as expected, but the output
never even gets warm. Good enough for me. My endtanks are still
JB welded, and have lasted almost a year now at 10psi. I always intended to
upgrade, but since its treated me very well im keeping it for now.

mkiv supra sidemount would prolly work well...there is TONS of bpu supras running around with 400+whp on the stock sidemount..
only bad thing about the supra sidemount is it has plastic end tanks...when i had a 94 supra with just bpu mods (exhaust, downpipe, intake, more boost) the end tank seal on the intercooler blew out...i of course upgraded to a greddy 3row fmic at that time
but anyways, for a stock sidemount the supra one isnt the worst you could do.

tip:
Isuzu NPR cores can be bought for ~$150.00 from big rig/diesel parts/junk yards in fairly good condition. u may have to fab up new endtanks though
</TD></TR></TABLE>Javier is right about the NPR's...Cheap and flow good...
Also, there are TWO versions of the NPR, the small ones on the earlier NPR's(the one tested in the article Javier linked too) and the Large ones on the later model NPR's...The large ones have about 8 more rows and the cross rows are twice as thick as the small version. The Large version will support upwards of a 1000HP...turn to your latest Modified magazine to see two cars running the Large Version NPR..Both Carlos Gonzales mazda(ran a 7.837 @ 170mph and Alex Dieguez(rosado racing toyota corolla) 7.89 @ 176mph run this exact intercooler and both make 900whp...
We also run the large style NPR on our shop drag truck and when dynoing at 26psi on a 80+ degree day we were seeing air intake temps of 80-90 degrees...the dyno operators said that was some of the coldest intake temps they had ever seen...
If you look at the inside of the cores on the large NPR, you will see they look just like a spearco...
