Re: best motor oil for boost (ben@importparts.com)
Yeah I use either mobile one or royal purple. I was using 10w 30 but I'm gonna try 15w50 until it gets a lil cooler.

Mobil One. I use 10w-30 with an oil cooler and it lasts for a good long while before becoming black. I used to use 15w-50 cuz i live in Houston and it's hotter than hell during the summer which is about 8 months long, but I've heard the thicker oil is bad for certain seals in honda engines since it was designed originally for 5w-30. I highly recomend getting an oil cooler for any turbo charged honda. The oil lasts at least three times longer before becoming pure black and I use a relocated oil filter which is twice as big as stock.

Synthetic is much better than conventional. This is proven by the fact that high performance engines like Porsche are recomended the use of Mobil One from the factory.

Some are, with high compression like the Type r motors. I think I will try the 15w50 just to see and might just get the oil cooler and stay with 10w30

bosted hondas and all motor hondas, if they are making atleast decent power, could be classified as high performance.

You could try reading replies before blantantly posting idiotic remarks.
While any motor that is making at least 100hp/liter and requires the use of 91 octane fuel is considered "high performance", that is not the point I was making. The topic said "i've heard that synthetic is good from some people and bad from others." I was making the argument that synthetic motor oils are superior to conventional oils simply by the fact that high performance motors DO recomend synthetic over conventional oil. And yes, some Honda motors are high performance.

so far i like penzoil longlife 15w40 the best, HTHS of 4.2 which is high and its conventional oil!.. i might try 15w50 next summer (mobil one looks good on the list, unless i find something else reasonably priced).. for right now, need to figure out what 5w40 to run during winter..
energy concerving oils won't have high HTHS, that includes some synth oils like.. mobil 1 5w30

I did read your reply and your remark was a little more idiotic than mine, I mean your comparing honda and porsche. What does porsche recommending synthetic oil for their high performace engines have to do with our honda engines? Nothing. Okay so the type r motor is higher performance than my little d16, but I wouldn't consider it high performance. Something like a ferrari or lambo I would consider high performance.
Oh and I am curious, does anybody know what type of oil honda recommends for a type r motor? I am going to guess regular 5w30 or 10w30. I'm not saying regular is better than sythetic, I really don't care. I am fine with paying 2 bucks a quart for my regular oil and changing it often.

Re: best motor oil for boost (Jordo)
Do people go to heavier oil solely b/c of the turbo?
I've got a B18B... Should I be using 10-30w or heavier? The recommendatoin is 5-30w for the stock motor.
Thanks.
