Best Location for a hood vent?
EDITED:
Where is the best location to draw the air out? Black area is where i plan to make the cut. Basically it would function like door, open when i'm driving, and have it closed when raining. When raised, it would faced backwards extracting hot air.
Should i make them different size, different location?

i think a vent would be a lot better than a scoop. a scoop will draw air in, but the vent will let it out. it will reduce air pressure in the front of the car, which will give you a little bit more downforce. presonally, i would like to put a vent in my hood, mostly to keep the engine bay cool.

this might not be a bad idea.. i was walking past my car close to the passenger wheel well and it was very warm... if it had enough opening im sure it could be cooler in that area, im sure it was hot on the drivers side also but i only walked past the passengers side..

sounds like a good idea, something thin and tward the back (second pic) is what i'd do. I might try this seeing that i could care less about the body of my car
What about motorizing the hinges to raise the whole hood?
You may not be able to keep hinge functionality, but you can always, just use pins, or those fast-snap things, and have the hood lift directly off...

How about just removing the weather stripping that's on top of the cowl. Then air that's blowing into the engine bay from your front bumper has a way to escape. Constant air flow over the motor (while moving).
Take it a step further and also do like someone mentioned earlier. Put washers on the hood hinge bolts to raise the hood up some. Even more air flow.

if your going to put a vent in your hood, why not but it where most of the heat is comming from. right above your header/manifold? this makes lots of sense. just look at where the evo hood has its vents and you shall understand.

mos def . . . . I second that. If you want a hood vent which does sound awesome, you're making me want one, it should be some what close to your manifold/downpipe area to get rid of all that heat that is radiating from there. The Evo's got nice hood vents

thats where all the heat comes from.. i just don't know if its the best location to draw out all that air.. if car moving forward, air will be drawn towards the back.. - but i don';t enough to back up that statement.
if you have the vent located in your pics, that is where air would be rusing into the hood. look at a cowl hood on a mustang, the hump isnt there to release air out, its there to draw air in. now compare this to the mugen hood where the vent is located above the header, letting the air rise out. but its your hood and your design man.

i'm looking for opinions and suggetsions.. so far half the people say to place it towards the back.. but i see your point.. i've seen a bunch of hoods with vents in the front..

finding evo vents will raise the price nd i want something that could be closed/opened. (and i'm trying to keep it low budget).. i want it to look decent, but i'm more concerned about function.. just making it work

well you dont need to buy a brand new evo hood and cut out the vent. call some junk yards up or better yet try to figure out older cars that had vents and maybe you find those more readily since the evo is sorta a new car.
