best cams for b series turbo shotting for 800hp
I'm trying to find out which cams would be best for my set-up .
the engine is a fully built ls vtec engine , borg warner turbo 75mm with a 1.25 A/R exhaust housing. I was thinking about type R cams .

Doesn't anyone run Mazworx cams anymore?? I used to hear all sorts of stuff about them, but in recent years, i haven't heard hardly anything...

Cam choices at high power levels depend a lot on how much boost the engine needs to run (depends on turbo), type of manifold used, etc...
You will notice that a lot of the higher lift/duration cams gain a lot of power at mid boost levels (ie: 15-20 PSI), but the gains slowly tapers off and sometimes becomes a power loss instead at higher boost levels (25+ PSI). The engine does not want more cam when it is running under high exhaust pressures, such that when intake/exhaust pressure ratio is no longer close to 1:1 and it will do more harm than good.
Since you can make 800 WHP in a variety of ways, it really depends on the setup. If you have a turbo with really large turbine, long length runner manifold, fully ported head, big bore 2.0L, higher compression, 4" downpipe with no exhaust, etc.. You can probably make 800 WHP at much lower boost and lower exhaust pressures, versus a small 1.8L with mild headwork, ramhorn manifold, full exhaust, and a GT4094R.
With the same given reason, I am currently still running on ITR cams.

for what its worth with a b-series/gt42r setup/ gsr cams, our power band ran out @ 9200 rpms.
we switched to a differant set of cams, same everything else in the setup, the car makes power past 11,000. it also makes the same power with about 5 psi less boost.
with just that switch we gained 3 tenths and a few mph (went from 9.0@152 to 8.75@ 165 )

skunk2 tuner 1's seem to be a great overall cam that dont put too much stress on the valvetrain yet make alot more than itr cams

Re: best cams for b series turbo shotting for 800hp
I'd use the Skunk2 Pro1's.. After the crappy customer service I received from Mazworx after calling them when my trans scattershield didn't fit (they said, we dont make honda parts anymore, call Innes.), I don't think I care to deal with them, they can keep on making Nissan parts. I didnt even call anyone else, I just modified the damn scattershield..
Oh, and the Sk2 Pro1's picked up almost 150hp over ITR cams at 40 psi on a 2.0l GSR.

Re: best cams for b series turbo shotting for 800hp
Without giving up any secrets, I'm curious if you guys might be able to give me some general idea of what duration (at .050" or 1mm or whatever), and what lift is at the larger end of the spectrum for a large displacement big turbo build? Honestly I'm not Honda-savvy enough to know that I'm looking at the Skunk2 Pro1 (or whatever the case may be) for the right engine. . .
Thanks in advance!
