best b16a turbo?
hey everyone, i have undergone my turbo setup, and wonder what turbo i should get...
my goal: 280whp w/ stock block
330+whp not a stock block
im leading towards the t3/t4 57 trim turbo, does anyone have any info about this turbo?
or... what else is out there that is better or will spool up quicker?
thx ht

if your going to do just 350-450hp then just get a 57/60 trim from garret. you can get 350whp on a stock motor. go to evans-tuning.com they have hundreds of them

go w/ a 57 trim .63ar....if you have more to spend, PM The Shodan about the GT3251e. Its basically a variation of the 57 trim but it will spool faster. If money is no option, the GT28rs would be an excellent choice...then again, its $1300 after all the water lines and whatnot...

Why do you have to go with a 5-bolt exhaust housing???
They really suck as far as flow rates go.
What manifold are you using?
I would suggest that you get the Garrett GT2871 with a full 3" DP and 3" exhaust

do the t3/t4 57 .63 come in 5 bolt exhaust?
idk what to do now, do they really suck, or just not as good as top notch ones?
its a cast iron manifold

and that $550 57 trim is going to make just as much power as the GT-R series on a stock engine....spool difference will be almost negligible. Not to mention, you'll have another $7-800 to spend on other things if you dont buy the GT-R series

Re: (tegdude227)
The GT3076R really is a great turbo in certain applications. In my opinion, it is used in more situations than necessary, but i'm not the one paying for it so i dont care.
The GT3076R basically allows the user to have a turbo that spools like a 57 trim, but is capable of 500 something wheel horsepower. The maps on Garrett's GT-R series are basically elongated versions of turbos like the 57 trim meaning it has a broader range of efficiency AND is more efficient at higher pressure ratios. Also, a common misconception is that the efficiency is attributed solely to the BB CHRA which is incorrect. The combination of an efficient CHRA and the wheel design is what makes the GT-R series as potent as they are. Simply put, adding a BB CHRA to a non-BB turbo is not going to allow it to spool faster. The only benefit is going to be the gain in transient response which cannot be measured on a dyno to my knowledge.
For those who dont want a run-of-the-mill T series turbo, there are other options available provided you care to look. I started looking around when i bought my new setup. I was recommended to The Shodan of STC who helped me tailor a turbo to MY setup. I chose the GT3255b which is a variation of the T3/T04E 57 trim. It is a non-BB GT series which is the "missing link" between Garrett's T series and GT-R series.
Go ahead and elaborate if necessary

just go 57 trim, the only flow difference between 5 bolt and 4 bolt is not that much. now if uwanted to go baller u could go v band but blah blah blah. 57 trim is the way to go. ball bearing turbos might spool 2-300 rpms faster at the most. 57 trim should give u a good powerband and flow well too. no reason to spend all that money on a gt series turbo. its jsut stupid. precision makes really nice turbos too. and cheap also

always glad i could help.
330+ could be had with a 50 trim and a stock block, what are your ultimate power goals? 330+ if very vague, is it more like 400 450?

definately not true, there are GT series turbos sized for just about every application, there is no mystery voodoo guessing game going on here, they're just better spooling turbos relative to their power potential.

Re: (slow96coupe)
the GT30r is the best thing to go with for that car/setup, plus its pretty big so that if you wanted to build the block/head you could get around 550 with that turbo on high boost and c16.
i am going with the PT67 - 30psi here i come!
