Default Basemap boosting.....

I have a 99 GSR that i just finished boosting on Wednesday. The car is running fine on a Crome basemap. I had it chipped by JK tuning. How long can i drive on the basemap before getting tuned? I was planning on about 3 weeks at most....is that going to be a problem?? I know it is running rich because of my craptastic mileage and the smell of unburnt gasoline from the open dp. I have only seen 4psi so far....(T3T4E 60trim .63ar on a stock GSR @10psi)

Rule of thumb:

Don't boost on a basemap.

Dont risk your motor boosting on a basemap. There could still be "hot spots" in it even though its probably pig rich. You never know

if you have to drive it just drive like a granny get into 5thgear around 40-50mph to keep those rpms low.

oh come on guys, you can boost plenty on a basemap. They're rich and conservative, thats what a basemap is. You'll be fine for 3 weeks, don't go run it at the dragstrip but other than that I don't see the need to be worried. I drove for 6 months on a basemap.

I ran on basemaps on my sohc for a looong time, never got that one tuned. Ran 13.8 on a viciously rich basemap too, got 17mpg if i was lucky on that one lol, think it was tuned for smaller injectors than i had.
Currently on a random basemap on my LS, runs good, gets 26mpg, gonna take it to the track next week, been about 1200 miles so far, no issues related to the tune.
But then again i'm crazy as shyit.

a base map is only as good as the person who made it ..

Yea, they're not the safest bet. But the point is that you'll be fine until you can get tuned, assuming u dont wait a million years to tune it (like me). Which reminds me, Adrian pm me when you're available, i'm gonna see what this "tuning" stuff does to cars.

Just because it is running rich doesn't mean your timing is perfect.

i went consistant 12.7's on a uberbase map with a small tune on the street for over a year. it gets 30mi to the gallon and is fine i never had a problem. i always hear people bashing running on a basemap but i can attest to it being ok. you should be fine on the one from j-k he does some good stuff

Just because ONE "basemap" runs well doesn't mean they all do. Your's worked out fine... whereas the one I had 5yrs ago would hardly allow my car to run.

this is true i was just saying that in most cases a basemap isnt gonna blow your motor up like alot of people think. who did your basemap on your old car?
