Default Back from the dyno.....JRSC B16A

well i finally got my car on the dyno last weekend. the setup consists of a JRSC type R kit on a B16A at 6psi, stock internals except GSR cams. stock header, short ram intake, pace setter exhaust , and tuned with an SMC+ and a techedge wideband. i should be able to get a little more power from it once i flatten the fuel curve a little better. i'm considering going the TurboEdit route (the equivalent to uberdata, but for OBD-0) but we'll see i guess. for timing i'm useing a BTC set to .7 deg retard per lb boost. all in all i'm happy with the results, its about what i expected with my fuel management. my plans for next spring are 9-10psi and an LHT intercooelr. well here it is, comments welcome:

even though i prefer turbo i dont know why a lot of times everyone hates on the jrsc guys...thats a beautiful torque curve. You must get tons of tirespin

yeah tire spin was a problem at the track. its great for daily driving though....even at 6psi its a lot of fun.

not bad Kevin. I had a similar setup of corse. At 10 lbs for me though I was at 210hp..and 150 ftlbs..none intercooled. so you should be making alot more. The nicest thing is I was getting 140ftlbs at 3k rpms....wow was that fun.
At the meet saturday was talking to john (LHT)..and checking out his car..and its still a fantastic way to go.

I have pics of my new setup but I don't want to dirty up your thread here.

peace man

Jon

I think you should go hondata before going with the lHT intercooler ( my .02 ) You're numbers look a little low. I hit 206 and 145 with a 6.5 pulley and DC intake and exhaust ( stock JR kit crap FMU ). Good luck.

With my JRSC setup, I ran no ignition retard on the VTEC lobe. Unfortunately, you can't do that down low or you'll get massive detonation in the 3-5k range.

My results were 197 whp @ 6psi and 215 whp @ 8psi. Both on the stock exhaust.

For what you've got though, those are some good results.

If/when you get Hondata and turn up the boost, lemme know. I wanna come play, too. I've got about year's worth of tuning maps from my old setup.

Very nice for 6lbs of boost, I can't wait till i turn up the boost on mine...all I have to do is put on my CRV crank pulley and I'll be set...

Not a bad job.
Since you're setuop is similar to mine (b16 block/GSR head, 6psi jrsc) I was curious as to what power you hit.

You should be able to see 200+whp at 6psi with a good tune, and a good header. A set of cam gears with the overlap properly tuned out should net you a few WHP too.

thanks for all of the suggestions guys. i realize hondata could net me a little more HP however the cost simply isnt worth it for me. i would end up spending $1000+ with tuning and converting to OBD-1 and that isnt worth another 15-20hp max. the same goes for exhaust...sure i could spend $600 on a nice header and a stainless cat back, but its not worth the extra 10hp. i figure i would rather drop $1200 and get the intercooler and a higher boost pulley. i'm just wondering what kind of power a b16 would make on that setup. i hope john gets some more dynos out of different LHT intercooled setups.

Nobody has posted their results from the intercooler. How do you know it is going to make more power? I thought of buying a unit from LHT but it is not a dyno proven product. How many positive plots have you seen from switching to a Hondata unit? How many dyno plots have you seen from people who used the LHT intercooler?

If you want to go with a header, the Kami is cheap and makes good gains.

Good luck!

Either way.... your'e going want to make the switch to a more tunable configuration.

well i dont expect gains over 20hp from the intercooler, however i expect a LOT less detonation probability at 10psi if the charge is nice and cool. so its more for my engine's well being than anything. about the kami header....do you know what the typical gains are on a setup like mine? i've never seen dynos for them even though they're really popular for the JRSC guys.

thanks

Meh...here's my setup:
2000 Civic Si with stock internals b16a2:
jrsc @10.5psi via CRV pulley
Rc 440cc injectors
Hondata s200b
Walbro 250lph fuel pump
aem cai
greddy 4-2-1 header
Apexi worldsport exhaust

runfile 016 was at 6psi before the pulley upgrade.

I was expecting more gains at 10psi, but I guess not

Got to love that torque curve though
