Default b20vtec timing

i figure i ask you guys because this is pretty much the only forum i follow.

anyway finished my B20vtec a couple weeks ago but i cant figure out this timing problem.

first off everything is OEM on this build so no surprises.

i want to set it at stock ignition timing but its impossible. its at a two degree retard because i cant go any further with the distributer....its all the way advanced. what could i do.

what timing belt did you use?? i heard gsr and b20 are different lengths, b16 is waay too short so i know you didnt use that one.

not sure in the differences in length between gsr and b20, but it also depends what water pump you use too.. b20 h2o pump=b20 belt, b18c pump=b18c belt.....somebody correct me if im wrong, but i've been doin a lil reading about this and this is what i've concluded...
good luck Nate!

is it at -2, or is it at 14? if stock timing is 16 degrees, and you're at -2, you're off a couple teeth on that timing belt, or its the wrong timing belt? at -2, i dont even think it'd run...or stuff would be breaking.

i just finished my GSR/B20b/T3-T4....above is your prob....if you used a B16 water pump....you need a B16 timing belt....i have on my set up...GSR water pump...there-for....GSR timing belt....change that out...and your timing issues will be a thing of the past...good luck

i've tried a b16 belt the first time....would not fit. GSR belt popped on there no problem. aren't all vtec water pumps the same? they all have the same amount of teeth on them dont they.

b16 belt is too short.

gsr/itr/b16 all have the same water pump part number...all have 22 teeth.

your only choice for a timing belt in your case is the gsr/itr since you used the bigger water pump, b16 BELT cant be used because the block is 8mm shorter than all the b18's.

im tellin ya man, check your timing belt again, set that bitch at TDC and make sure all your marks match up.

and, are you at 14 degrees, or -2? if you're at -2, sounds like you're about 3 teeth off.
