B20 bottom W/ B18 VTEC Head BOOST
I just got an ek9 and I have no idea how much boost I can run with that setup, can someone give me a ball park on how much boost I can dish out with stock internals without blowing up, and how much power can I expect?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Welcome to H-T! This topic has really been exhaustively covered for about the last 10 to 15 years, so please take a look via Google, (and not the H-T Search engine) for specific details on how-to's or specific details. (some links are a little old, but the science behind them hasn't really changed).. The amount of boost pressure is not the issue when it comes to this particular hybrid creation, but the amount of HP and airflow conversion that the engine will experience. Because of the slightly thinner walls of the B20 as compared to the B18 series of engines (if you intend to not change the internal components of the engine block. So, about no more than 300whp (or about 225kw to the wheels). The cylinder walls could easily become damaged after this HP level, or if you're over 2.5PRs using the smaller turbochargers. So, it depends upon what you'd rather do with this engine block. In addition, tuning management (both equipment and tuner) will be key in keeping your car running properly. This includes but is not limited to; Larger fuel injectors, fuel pump, Fuel pressure regulator, exhaust system, exhaust manifold, downpipe, etc).
Giving more information regarding your purpose of the car, what you've picked up so far, mileage (condition) of the long block, will be helpful. Also, where you're located in the U.S. would help so as to refer you to places that might be within your area. So take a look first, and then make another post with multiple questions and not create a bunch of threads.
Good luck, Guts, and welcome.

To answer your question the motor isn't boost limited. Reason being is 10psi out of a T25 turbo will not be the same amount of air (power) as 10psi out of a T70 size turbo. You need to focus your concern on how much POWER your motor can handle without "blowing up". I know B20s have weak cylinder walls but I don't know where they crack. Basically you need to understand your motor's most likely weakest link and find out roughly where it will fail. That is your answer.
