Default b20 or b18 head?

I'm just starting a rebuild of a b18a bottom end w/ 84.5mm bore golden eagle or benson sleeves, all the appropriate bottom end strengthening, and using a drag turbo kit on it. I have an old b18a block and crank I can have that I plan to use so I can keep my current b18a in my integra and keep the car on road until my engine is ready. This is my first engine rebuild and turbo project so I would expect a ton of down time if I tried to yank my engine, rebuild it, then drop it back in.

I also can get my hands on a 1997 JDM b20b head (same spec as the USDM b20z I believe). Should I use this head or should I get my hands on a b18a/b head? Will the b20b head be as easily compatible w/ the drag kit as a b18a would be? I understand the b20 has larger valves, would this be more desireable?

VTEC is not an option for me. This project is already way beyond my skill and experience levels. This car is to be a daily driven street machine, minimum drag strip exposure, just some serious go in the gas pedal.

BTW, I have to keep a/c. It gets real hot up here in Seattle

Thanks,

Leif

Just find a cheap b20 head around the classifieds. JDM just adds $100 just because its JDM. Contact HX Guy because he has one with crower springs and valves that he might sell. He is going B20 Vtec.

The B20 head is going to be the same as the B18B head. Same valves and springs/retainers. the 99-00 B20Z head has the same cams as the B18B engines...while the 97-98 head has a slightly smaller intake cam (less lift).

Now, I have heard that for some reason a B20 head flows better then a B18 head...but I have no proof or idea why (since the yare the same cast number *P75). But I have spoke with people who sid they dyno'd a B18B head and B20 head and teh B20 head put down slightly better power.

As for the valvetrain I had for sale, its all been sold already...but I do have a 1998 JDM B20 head for sale if you are intrested...also has an extra valve cover, 2 sets of cams (B20B and B20Z cams)...let me know if you are intrested.

If the JDM b20b head I have lined up falls through then I will probably contact you guys.

If you were in my position, would you slap your 1993 b18a cams in the b20 or stick w/ the b20 cams? It's my understanding that the 1997 JDM b20b cams are the same spec as the 1999-2000 USDM b20z cams.

Thanks for the help,

Leif

BTW, looks like a b18a/b head is going for about $150. Anyone know what b20b/z heads are going for?

Thanks,

Leif

Aren't the combustion chambers different sizes, I mean I am not sure if that would make a problem...but aren't they?
