Default B18b with the M62.Cone on in!

Anyone on here besides LS Avenger running the m62 blower with 8-12 psi (depending on ur setup of pullies) on a b18b if so im just curious what kind of track times and/or dyno numbers you are getting just because im going to be changing out some pullies in couple of months to get more boost and just want to know what to expect....

Thank you for your time.

8.8 1/8th mile without intercooler on a B18B motor. See below.

that was no intercooler no electronics and 93 oct pump timing set at 9 degrees. The intercooler is on my 99Si coupe. I do not drag race it.

I made those numbers after 4 years of tinkering and an additional $3000 in parts and tunning. And most of all trial and error to see what works and what doesn't. Learning how to drive the car and finding faster shift points certainly didn't hurt. I shift at different RPM for each gear, that alone helped a tenth or two...
I was making impressive numbers before I was supercharged, mostly due in fact to a complete engine rebuild. On the dyno I was making 135HP @ 5800rpm and 125ft lbs of torque from 4700-5200rpm. If you notice these peaks are 500rpm lower than a stock B18B. I was not looking for peak horsepower in my rebuild, but considerable midrange to upper RPM torque, that would lead to fastest times. My peak horsepower number only increased 13 horsepower, but my torque increased 20-25 ft lbs from 3000-5000rpm. I was making more torque at 2800rpm than my previous peak of 112.

If you are curious to what I had done, it's simple. Street and strip Head and block work to include, port and polish, 3 angle vavle job, cryo and polished rods, SRP 10.5:1 oversized forged pistons, milled head, JG 1001 cams (midrange-upper RPM profile), port matched manifolds and all of it dyno tuned with cam sprockets to achieve the most power improvements between 4000 and 7000rpm (not peak).

This caused a loss of 6HP in top end 5500-7000, BUT in favor of 10-12 more HP from 3000-5000rpm. I drove around with both settings and didn't like the peaky 141hp setting, I could not feel a difference until 6500rpm and then its time to shift, and plus it FELT slower. The setting with the bump in midrange power was nice, I could feel it with every drive to work and every hill I climbed. At the track It was nice too, the car did not bog at the bottom of each gear (4500-5500rpm 2nd-4th gear) it just quickly accelerated to redline.

Soooo, since I was already dealing with a tuned engine, I put a controled breathing apiratus on it taking over all CFM control into the head and creating all kinds of heat and turbulence at it's own timing. This thing is called a supercharger. It is designed to take over intake breating and put in a fixed amount of air to create 160hp on a dyno. Anything more would require modification to the engine or SC kit. Increase the boost, increase the compression, increase the breathing efficiency or tune the fuel and timing... I have done all of that execpt increase the boost.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION IN FEW WORDS AS POSSIBLE; TIME AND MORE MONEY...

Looking at your posted times, It appears you are loosing some time off the line. Looking at your trap speed, you are making enough power to propel you to lower 14 second range. You are probably loosing 3-4 tenths in your 60ft time due to traction loss. This is something that haunted me for a year. I tried every RPM launch point and method to no prevail at a lousy inconsistent 2.4 second 60ft by launching at 3500rpm with 80% throttle (no boost)and a dump of the clutch followed quickly by 100% throttle after hook up, to again start spinning around after 6000rpm. I bought a pair of drag radials and immediately dropped to 2.25 with the same method. With the increase in traction from these 225-45R14 R compound rubber, I found my best launches to be at 4500rpm at 100% throttle to achieve 2.03-2.12 60 ft times. This 4 tenths gave me a half a second in the quarter mile with an additional 1mph in the traps.

What is your 60ft times?????????????

Cool thanks for all the info man..... i didnt realize u had a built-up engine.. i thought u were all stock internally...

my best 60 ft is a 2.257.......i accomplished that by deflating my stock michillens on my stock 15 inch rims to about 18-20 psi...

Well I just bought whats left of LSAvenger's teg, so I guess pretty soon I'll be a member of the b18b w/m62 club. I am putting this drivetrain in my beater teg and attempting to make something nice outta this poor car. I don't plan to have this swap done for a few months though, but when I do, I'll post up some numbers.

Do you have a Type-R engine in your GS or do you have a Type-R JRSC kit on a B18B?

Your 14.75 time is normal for a lightly modified B18B. A completely stock B18B with nothing but the kit can barely break into the 14s, especially if its an OBDII and a heavier 4 door.

If you do have the Type R kit, then get a blower pulley that is 15% smaller to put you near 9psi, tune it with a Hondata and larger fuel injectors and invest in some slicks or racing tires. This will put you near a 14 flat. A little water injection will insure consistency in your runs as the engine heats up and longevity of your engine. This will also allow you to increase your timing to 14 degrees and get back 10-15hp lost in retarded timing. With 9psi you will have to retard it even more. You should be at a 10 degree retard right now, and with 9psi you will have to bring it down to 7 or 8 to keep it all safe. The water injection should be good enough to break into the 13s.

Good luck

the JRSC on the Ls hatch runs 9psi with the stock crankpulley and the Si blower pulley. the timing is at 9 degrees. he has no BTC no water injection no electronics at all. THe hatch has stock exhaust manifold over 200,000 miles on the engine email me if you have more questions. grand6000@aol.com .....teamklr.com
