Default B16A2 or Poorman's ITR?

Very much like the topic says, I've decided to boost my car. Which brings me to my dilema.

As the car sits now, it's a B16A2 with ~120xxx. I have in my possession a GSR block/rods, with an "R" crank. I can go with either block, but I'm leaning toward more displacement. Either way, a rebuild is in order. Opinions?

Furthermore, my power goals are 300+ daily driven reliably. I've been looking at the SC61 lately, as it seem to be a good all around turbo. I want to see full boost by about 3000-3500, but I don't know if it's possible with that large of a turbo. What are some recommendations for a decent sized turbo with good spool characteristics?

And is there anyway I can keep my AC/PS? It's not necessary, but it would be nice. Opinions and ideas are welcome, but please keep the stupidity out of my thread.

you can do that on a bone stock motor.

1. b16/b18 whatever. The larger displacement motor will always make more power/torque. Pick one, paper, rock, scissors, ......
2. The SC61 is a 600whp capable turbo. It's complete overkill for what you want. I'd go for a gt28rs, 2871r, or a 30 frame turbo if you're wanting to make 450whp or so.
3. There are many manifold options that allow you to keep a/c & PS.

U can make 300 on either one of those motors, but the B16 will have less torque, making it easier to street drive, and sometimes faster(on the street)b/c of traction.

What about 350ish? I've seen it done repeatedly, but I'm looking for reliability as well.

Disco Potato? That's also an option in my mind. It's capable of roughly 350-400hp, or something like that, correct?

What exactly is a 30 frame turbo? My turbo knowledge is somewhat limited, so any help would be appreciated.

I was looking at the DRAG manifolds for A/C and P/S compatibility. What are some others?

GT30R & GT3071R or any variation of a 30#@*
for a/c compatible manifolds, check out the sponsor forum. There are some good folks in there.

Edit
A gt28rs has been known to make around 350whp or so on evans-tuning dyno.

That was my guess. So the GT30 series is what I should be looking at?

If you're looking for over 400whp yes. That completely depends on your HP goals.

I'd honestly be happy with 300-400hp. I'm going to look up the Garrett website right now. Will this turbo fit with my A/C and P/S?

just stay b16. I am out of the game as of 2 days ago. I am tired of boosted FWD and all the heart ache tied in it and my wasted lost money. I am making my car stock and saying goodbye to this scene.

Just because that got posted ONCE on Importbuilders.com doesn't make it the truth. I'll take a GSR/LS/ITR motor that spools the turbo quicker on the street ANY day of the week. Much easier to modulate the throttle and control traction when you're not worried about falling completely out of boost and bogging like you are with a B16 motor. I have an 81.5mm B16 with an SC61 in my daily driver, and traction is the absolute ***** compared to a buddy of mine with an 84mm LS/VTEC with the same turbo because it comes on so violently in such a short period of time with the B16.

I've seen first hand b16's that make more torque than A GSR at the same whp level. GSR > in spoolup though
