Default b16a turbo size

up until just recently i was running at 450whp and 412 torque using a precision 5431E MFS entry level turbo, the turbine housing was A/R 63, at 1.2 bar's but my turbo did'nt last long, about a year to be exact, so i'm wondering if its the size, the fact that its an entry level turbo, the boost level or a combination of these things that ended my turbo's life.

this is my setup
civic 1995 4 door
b16a swap.
hondata map sensor.
AEM fuel rail and regulator.
725 id injectors
Skunk2 66mm Alpha Throttle Body.
BLOX POWER INTAKE MANIFOLD up to 72mm.
Golden Eagle Cam Gear Gears.
Wiseco Forged Pistons Eagle Rods 10.75:1 81mm.
Darton Dry Sleeves
b18c type R camshafts and lifters.
ARP main and head studs.
AEM UEGO Wideband O2 Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge and the Bosch 4.2LSU sensor.
cometic std size and bore head gasket.
ACL Race BEARINGS Kit.
Gates Racing Belt Timing Kit.
Aeromotive 340 Series Stealth In-Tank Fuel Pump
ptp turbo blanket
Tial waste-gate and dump valve
Mishimoto radiator and aluminum fan and shroud kit
Moroso 4 Quart Oil Pan
ACL Honda B20B4/B18C1/B16A2/B20Z2 High Performance Oil Pump
hondata s300 v2
Competition Clutch Stage 5 and Competition Clutch FlywheelDrive Shaft Shop 2.9 Axles

I would say the fact that its a precision, get a borg warner or Garrett turbo and you will be good

Unfortunately there are many stories and reports around Precision's durability and failures, so it may just be that your unit is one of those that live a short life.
As 2kdrift says, Borg Warner and Garrett have much better track records with reliability.

At 450whp and 1.2 bar you were using the turbo in its efficiency zone so don't see that as being the problem

PS: You referred to bar - which country are you in ?

Those are solid options
You can also look at a Holset HY35 or HX35 with BEP T3 housing https://www.extremepsi.com/store/pro...roductid=23483

The Borg Warner S256 SXE also looks like a nice unit but the T3 housing tacks on a chunk to the base price !

i'm from jordan so my options for a turbo are limited to what i can find over here right now, the precision took ages to get here and so i feel really let down by its quality

the holset hx35 sounds like a good idea to me as they are in supply over here brand new for diesel trucks, could you elaborate a bit more on the BEP T3 housing? could i use any used T3 housing? for example could i use the precision housing?

i did have a pic of the results on my old phone but i'd have to sift through my pic's folder on my pc and that might take awhile as nothing is sorted, been meaning to do that for a few years now, if i can get in to town this week i'll ask the tuner to print it out for me if he still has it.

No.You can't use just any housing. Turbine wheel has to match the profile of the turbine housing. BEP (Bullseye Power) would typically have those housings depending upon the turbo part number ( HY vs HX ) etc. They are only in the U.S

there is a guy other here that does this for holset's, that i've heard of, but not sure how good the end result would be. i once had it done to save money by using a used garret and a rb20 housing to save money on a new manifold with a ok results but power wise not so ok, as it maxed out at 340 whp

That's fine, but that's based upon the wheel profiles, more so than the housings themselves

Well I've decided to get the precision rebuilt for now until i can find a better option, I've looked in to the BEP housings and figure i can wait until it gets here and hopefully the rebuild will hold

Take off the compressor cover and look on the face of the backplate to see if there is an etching there. (May be on the back also). There may be a date stamp on it. If it's before 1/07, is a Garrett. If that's the case, and it top a Garrett dealer for rebuild and not Precision.

Good luck
