b16a Turbo Question!!!!!
Ok well I pulled the b18b1 out of my car and swapped in a B16A and the car is running good and is about to go for a tune. My b16 does not have a head gasket yet and im wondering how much boost should I go upto with out a head gasket so its safe. I Know from searching with a head gasket it can hold 15psi. But with out one how much can it hold safe as well? thanks for your help.
OK ...pfeeww. I thought I was getting dumb and never heard of this. Stock headgasket is fine for as much HP and boost as you want. People make 700 HP on stock headgaskets torqued correctly.
Yea just looking to find out what boost is safe on a stock head gasket. I am not lowering the compression yet but my car car is in need of a good tune. So my question is this. What PSI is safe on a stock headgasket/motor?
Trending Topics
there is no "safe" amount of HP a stock head gasket can handle. there are way to many factors involved. is it the HG that came out of the factory WITH the motor? is it a new OEM head gasket, if it is..were the stock bolts re-used? are you using ARP head bolts? my motor was just built, i am aiming for the area of around 350whp on a mustang, and i am using an OEM head gasket with ARP's head studs torqued to 70ft/lbs. if it is a stock head gasket that has never been changed before i wouldnt try to get to crazy. you will more than likely end up replacing it alot sooner than you hoped if you start getting boost happy.

stock motor never been pulled apart 40k on it.
i wanna run 10-12 psi through my gt32-51 turbo is it gonna be safe with mt 750cc injectors tuned by JASON HUNT on PUMP GAS.

please help this idiot. He wants to know how much boost he can run on a completely stock obd-1 b16a, never been pulled apart, etc. Ive told him he should run 10, tuned. he seems to think he can run 12-13, but i say thats pushing it, and it wont last too long ( hes not easy on his cars).
b16a with 40K, sounds like jdm.
jdm runs 10:6 c/r am i right. 13 psi on 10:6 stock block and internals on pump gas. is'nt that like one little little error (like detonation) and then BOOOOMMMMM!??

Yea I dont plan on running 13psi I wanna run atleast 10psi. Daily drive at 8psi, and when needed go to 10 or 12 what ever it gets tuned for. but yea.. just trying to find out whats safe.
EVERYONE SHUT UP WITH THE GODDAMN PSI THING!! ****!!
It doesn't matter how much PSI you run on any car it matters how much HP you are making! I could run 18PSI on pump gas and if I make only 250whp, great. If I run 5PSI and make 300whp then I am a lot more unsafe since i'm stressing the internals more. GET IT! So stop with the I wanna only run xxPSI since anything else is dangerous, cause it's BULLSHIT! Listen to your tuner and trust him/her, if you don't get another tuner. Bigger Turbo=more HP on less PSI because they flow more CFM.
sorry about the yelling, but this this the most misinformed topic I always hear on HT and on the streets
And for the headgasket, just get another OEM if you are going to open the head.

thanks. Jason Hunt is tuning my car. he has a 9 sec crx and also drives now for saturn motor sports with there 7 sec fwd car. But yea he said he wants to tune it for 10-12 psi and should be safe. Close to 300whp he said. so next week it goes for the tune wish me luck
anthing over 260whp should be fun

actually its not how much horsepower you are making either. Its cylinder pressure that matters. But generally more hp = more cylinder pressure.
But to sort of answer the question I run 25lbs on a stock head gasket with arp head studs torqued to 80lb ft.

Absolutley correct, but that might be too complicated for people to understand in this thread.
