Default B16A New Clutch problem???

Hi there guys, i just had a new clutch put in my civic 1.6VTi (160bhp) B16A, the clutch is a japanese blue print part which is basicaly a stock clutch for this car in the uk.

The problem is that the engine management light has come on! and the car drives like a fart! slower than before. So basicaly before i had new clutch fitted the car was brilliant and fast and now it is nothing like that.

So what do you think guys this is really putting me off my civic coz i dont know wot to do with it, can i have your recommenations.?

umm... Sorry man. I havent the faintist clue to what the engine code is.I dont even have any equipment to check this.
Its just a yellow engine management light on my dashboard that comes on after about a minute i start driving.

Now i was told i wud have to take it to the honda dealer to have it diagnosed. But they charge £70 per hour thats like $135.
Do u think this is the main reason why the performance has become so poor??
otherwise i wud have to go to honda garage as a last resort!

Warm up the car to normal temp. Pull up your passenger side kick panel and find your ECU. You'll see a green or blue plug coming off it with 2 wires going to it. With the car off jump out the 2 wires by sticking a paperclip between the connectors. Then switch the car to the on mode but don't turn it on. Watch the engine light. It should flash.

Long flahes mean "10" and short flahes mean "1".

So for example if you get 2 long flahes and 5 short ones that's 25. Do a search for the ECU codes in the EG+ forum to figure out what's wrong with your car.

Ive been trying to locate the wire from ECU panel near passenger side panel u told me to, but i cannot locate the little plug.

Instead i have founda silver block with a screwed on silver panel where the ECU circuit board is housed and there is a green plug with a loom of wires coming out of it that goes across the ECU box. basically i see loads of wires around that box but no small clip with 2 wires coming out of it.

I actually disconnected the green loom and found, when i turn my ignition on the engine check light was no longer there. so i suppose i basically disconnected the ECU.

I suppose it could be my civic model. Its a 1996 model civic EK4 with B16A2 engine.

And yes my car is european version I live in the UK.

The new clutch seems very light with no feel at all, the biting point seems very high as if the clutch is almost worn out. I know its hydraulic. But dont know how a new clutch should feel any ideas?

Thats what my intial thought was before. I took it to my friend today and we were searching around for unconnected plugs and stuff around the engine, we cleaned some that had transmission fluid on them, put them all back in place. and i thought we had a result but after about 5 minutes of the engine idling it came on again!
I think il be going back to the mechanic who dun it.
The thing that really bothers me is the fact that the performance is not there. when im in the VTEC zone i cant feel the accelaration like i could. i hope the problem is with engine check light and not the clutch. What do u think?

I know your main problem is the CEL right now.
But on another note, I hope you haven't been beating the **** out of your clutch right from the get go. A clutch has to break in for a couple hundred miles before it's ready to get beaten on. The slipping might be because it didn't get broken in, or maybe the mechanic didn't clean the flywheel surface/clutch disc surfaces properly. It could be all kinds of things.

Oh, just had another thought about your CEL connector. Check behind your center console towards the firewall. In my prelude the connector was hidden up in there instead of the passenger side kick panel. Just a thought.

thanks for the tip man, i wasnt really ragging the **** out of it apart from the odd blast coz i wanted to see what it was like after the repair. ive been told that screwing the crap out of ur car with the engine check light can have serious consequnces. so ive been keeping it sweet.
il check the CEL, thanks dude

How did your oxygen sensor get busted from doing a clutch install, was it upstream or downstream?
