Default B16 vs. B18C vs. B20/vtec for street motor - What's your take?

Yes, I've searched and looked over this, but nothing has really answered my question. For a street turbo motor looking to make as much horsepower as possible on 92 octane + alky/water injection, what motor would you go with? I've been looking at a B16 with an 85MM bore, which would give me 1747CC's, but is the 1.75:1 rod/stroke ratio of the B16 such a substantial benefit that would warrant staying with that motor? Even though a B20z has a less-than-perfect rod/stroke ratio, would that be a better motor to go with for the most power on the street? After seeing the 500 WHP @ 18PSI from a built B20/vtec, it got me wondering. But finally, what about a B18C1? Do the downsides of the B20/vtec outweigh the benefits? What route would you go if you were in my position?

If the B20Vtec is built correctly , it will last and make plenty of power. It will also rev with no problems too , not that you will need it with boost.

There is more than just putting a Vtec head and a B20 Block . We spend alot of time building our B20Vtec's and they cost alot of $$$. Check out Endyn's site, he has a nice step by step on a build they did and it shows alot of little things that help. http://WWW.THEOLDONE.COM.

I would go with the one I could afford, but would like a b18c1 to boost.

So with something modest like an 8000-8500 RPM redline and a properly built B20, the worse rod/stroke ratio is fairly insignificant? What intake would work well, I'm assuming something like the ITR IM would work good, but what about the JG Edelbrock piece? Thanks for that link, by the way

yup, don't be stupid like me and spend $1000 getting a B20....The b20/vtec is in my car now, and I have almost all of my turbo parts but I am not going to boost it as I originally planned. Instead I got a LS block and crank for next to nothing and another Vtec head...I'll have it sleeved and bored to 84mm...Im doing this the right way.

Hears a quote from a h-t member (forgot member name): "b20 sleeves will crack if a turbo is in the same room as it" pretty much true, and a little humorous...hehe

I have also cracked sleeves in a B20 , I was running 10 psi and just got too crazy with the timming. It pinged on the dyno while tunning it, and that was too much for it.
I would sleeve a B20 of an LS if you have the $$$( Same crank), and use a B16/Type R head and either a Type R or JG manifold.
