B16 Turbo'ing advice needed!
Hi everyone, read through as many of the old posts as i could to try and save me asking stupid questions but you never know, still might happen!
I live in the uk and want to turbo vt civic (150bhp version).I already have a garrett t3 turbo, bailey dv24 & dv26 BOV,got a saab I.C. (was for last project, but went pear shaped!) and other then that dont have anything else. By checking the posts out Hondata seems to get ALOT of praise as a good system although i'm not sure if we have compatible ecu's over here?I'm really after a bit of info on what i actually need to do in order to turbo the car and what other bits i actually need, like if i need forged pistons etc,i want it as a daily driver and i would like to run 10-20psi boost if possible. If anyone could give me any advice of products to steer clear of and products that work well it'd be much appreciated.
Sorry 2 ramble,
T

just get the matching hondata for your ecu, if it's a 96-up you're going to need to get an OBD2-OBD1 conversion harness, and then u can get it fine tuned to perfection. Stay away from FMU's/Missing links, i've heard a lot of problems with them, and i figure just get Hondata or AEM EMS and do it right the first time. New pistons, sleeves, and rods are a good idea but not needed if u aren't going to go for insane amounts of power. 20Psi is also pushing that little Saab t3, 10 psi on a stock block with that turbo would be a great start, then save up and get the motor rebuilt and get a bigger turbo and have some fun
ps. ur also gonna want to look into colder spark plugs (and keep extras in ur car) and keep checking ur oil, these aren't oem turbo charged cars so there is a lot of maintance involved

Oh ok mate, sounds good, the t3 isn't off of a saab its a brand new unit striaght from garrett!I have friends (most running t3's) on rst fiesta's and silvia turbo's and they are running between 20-30psi a piece. Is it down to the engine that it would be best to keep it down at like 10 psi?The main reason for wanteing to built this engine is to be able to play with them and they are SERIOUSLY quick!
But thanks for info on ecu soft/hard ware.I've seen alot of posts where missing links have led to tears before bedtime!
cheers

if u want to "safely" run over 10psi you're going to need a rebuild and and a GM 3 bar map sensor i beleive, i wish someone who knows a little bit more about turbo's would come in here and answer some questions cuz i know i'm leaving something out here

Re: (LoCoRaCeR)
forged pistons, sleeves (not needed 100% but they are a nice addition if u can afford them), new rods, ARP or AEBS head studs a lot of little in's and out's but for the most part getting it tuned properly will be the best thing

Re: (LoCoRaCeR)
How much HP ya want? PSI dont mean jack... Also PLENTY of B16's are running 350 whp which MOST people would be happy with, and yes thats stock. Save the money for rods and pistons if you want to stay under 350 whp and spend it on engine management and tuning....

Re: (quik sol)
Well my eventual goal was a car that was reliable between 300-400bhp,don't know how much money that equates to but i just want at least a partially realiable motor though, dont know at what stage you lose reliability for performance but thats what i'd like to find if possible the balance point,i've also gotta do some hunting for a good honda tuner!

Re: (LoCoRaCeR)
Do yourself a favor and not jump into things right away. I did with mine and have to sell some of the parts because they are really for low boost setups which I want to run 14 psi

Re: (quik sol)
Its only a 2.7 model. You sure i'll have to do a full build? If so i don't mind or anything, just need to start getting the parts built up so it can start soon.
