b16 lsd trans or put an lsd in my ls trans?
i was wondering what you guys think would be a better choice for me...a b16 lsd trans or should i just put an lsd in my ls trans? i am leaning towards getting an lsd for my ls trans because i do more highway runs than anything. i think the longer gearing will also help me with traction.
what do you guys think would be the better choice?

eg hatch with a gsr.. right now i am at 290whp but plan to run e85 and run 15lbs of boost(im at 9psi right now). i might build the block but i am not sure.. i just might keep it stock. my goal is 390-450whp.

I agree, Ls/Vtec with an Y1 w/ LSD and my first two gears are worthless! If I don't feather the car right I can burn straight through 3rd...
The short gears and LSD do make launching and accelerating fun in 3rd/4th...

you will want to punch yourself after the fact if you go with a b16 trans and 400+hp that you are trying to do a lot of highway runs. you will top out 4th at or before 120 depending on rev limit and tire size.
honestly, gsr trans with lsd is the way to go. its a nice combo of the short gears and 4.4 fd while not topping out early. additionally when you hit the track your power goals match up nicely to a 24.5" slick at the top of 4th gear.
over the last 8 or so years ive had almost every b series motor/trans combo and im currently using a 2 liter gsr motor with gsr trans and lsd. seems to be the best combo ive had. oh yea, get an egt gauge if you really want to do highway pulls or do boosting in 5th. it really helps me know how far i can push it and when i need to let out. even properly tuned motors can build too much heat when pushed for long enough. this lets you know that. good luck

For 390-450whp go with a B16. My friend had a 250whp integra with a ls tranny and he fell out of boost alot. You said your at 280-290 right now and it is not far off at all. I have a b16 in my car and last year I was making 340whp and didnt spin really. This year I made 405whp on pump gas and with dr's i hooked pretty good. LS tranny's are really meant for higher whp IMO on the street. My brother, who made 503whp on c16 and was on the highway quite abit doing some 3rd gear pulls and with DR's and 503whp he dead hooked 3rd. However for the track a ls tranny will hurt you as it did him. If you have the traction, get a b16 or even a b18c1 gsr tranny. I would suggest LS if you planed on topping your car out on the highway which to me is very unsafe and stupid. My brother who has the LS loves it but needless to say just bought a b18c1 tranny as did i. It's realy up to you as everyone has there own views.

unless that dyno ur using is super high
a 400whp civic with ls trans has a hard enuff time with traction
-and don t give me the bulshit boost by gear ****
a gt3076 with 4psi spring will creap to atlest 12psi on first gear................

I am talking about from a highway roll from a 60mph with the LS tranny. First and second are useless from a dig as everyone knows. Also was on a DR tire that was warmed up too. On a cold night it blew all of 3rd off.

there are a lot of variables at stake here in the "dead hooks 3rd" conversation.
tire psi, suspension and rear preload, tire size, boost control, turbo spool characteristics, brake boosting or just slowing ramping into boost.....
i know for a fact my car with 400hp will pretty much slam 3rd against the limiter and audibly squeal tires in 4th up to redline with the rear preload set tight. these are 225 bfg. and just flooring it at 60mph no brake boost
same everything else but with about 3/8" gap between the spring and the perch as opposed to about 1/16 in the previous scenario hooks dr's and can come pretty close to dead hooking 205 street tires

I'm the one cdecker is talking about. BB in 3rd at 60mph S1 tranny, at 503whp 205 50 15 MT ET DR's I hook. (not on a cold night) Call it BS if ya want because I have no proof.

on our dyno this car at 560whp in 4th gear runs 10s on a bad launch and slow shift(actually stereo felt out and jam between shifter lol)
10.9@136mph(this is with 560whp)car weights in at about 2380 without driver (driver is 180lbs)
