Default b16 or GSR tranny for boost?

I have a 00 civic Si with a drag kit on a b16.

My friend is willing to trade his GSR tranny for my B16 tranny. Since the GSR tranny has longer gears will this be better for my boost?

This question has been answered many times.....and some people say that longer gears are better cuz you are in boost longer, BUT they don't think that with the shorter gearing you get boost quicker and your car is quicker. Long story short...

B16 tranny if you want to be fast, that's my $.02 and it all depends on what you are doing with the car. I don't think there is a one tranny fits everyone out there, unless you start switching gearing and stuff.

I have seen many, many posts on here about which tranny is best, and each time it comes up this is the result...

B16 - Good for quick street runs from light to light.
GSR - Overall the best tranny for the Track.
LS - good for High speed, or Highway oriented cars.

There is no "best" tranny for boost. however, you should pick a tranny based on how, and where you drive.

Gsr Is great trany for street car, if hes willing to trade your for a gsr, then do it, your coming ahead $ wise and trannywise. You'll fin that b16 tranny will hurt you on the highway along with gas mileage

When i first got boost i had a GSR tranny (on my b16 @10psi) After upping the boost a few times i ended it with bad 3rd gear synchro- Got Si tranny, Wasn't to thrilled- Quick take off, mad traction issues! Shity gas mileage, but quick to hit full boost on highway (probably cause you rev so high at 75 in 5th) My last trans and the one i am going to try again, was a b16 1st and 2nd and a GSR 3rd 4th 5th. It was beautiful!!

How hard is it to change out the gears in a tranny? Professional work? And where do you find these gears? yeah i was thinking about keeping the B16 tranny i have and just doing to LS final drive? what do you think about that? How different is the GSR final drive as well? Would it be cheaper to just change out the gears than buy the GSR tranny?

You wouldn't want to swap out the final drive, just switch out the 5th gear. You definitly should have a manual with exploded pictures handy if you're going to try it. B16 (s1, j1) trans with an LS 5th gear is perfect in my eyes.

now i understand what the final drive is.. its not a 5th gear. What does it look like, and how does it fit in with the gears? Im thinking of just keeping my damn Si tranny and be fine. Its doing fine as it is now. 5th gear would be the ONLY gear i change, but its fine... Hey, thats how it came from Honda, so there ya go!

I have a JDM b16 tranny right now, and when I was boosted, I was loving every minute of it. GSR is the best all around though.

Where in norcal are you? If you decide to not trade your friend, ill be glad to trade him. I sold my engine and turbo kit, so I need longer gears for commuting(GSR).

Yeah that WOULD be perfect! Gears that wind out fast until 5th then a 3000 rpm @ 70 cruising speed.
