b16 with ctr guts on boost
So im getting a new car tomorrow/today and its got a usdm b16a2 in it. Problem is its got a ctr crank, rods and pistons in it. Not to mention cams and valvetrian but that wont do anything but help. I want to run a ramhorn with a .63 ar turbo like decent t3/t4 on 10 psi tuned on chrome, will by cr be too high? Rumor is 11:5.1. Maybe a low cr headgasket and some arp headstuds.
it has a 99-00 b16 in it that has ctr cams, pistons, rods, crank. has a custom 4 speed tranny with 5 gear eliminated set up for the track here whats dude said, i havent gotten the car yet, now im kinda iffy on it? what yall think

He is right! You cannot use B16B rods in a B16A block, PERIOD. Furthermore, you cannot use B16B pistons on B16A rods with out machine 1mm off each side of the small end of the rod. B16B pistons will ONLY fit on LS rods w/o machining. Honestly, I'd bet you are getting a stock B16A2 and this guy is BS'in but that might just be me.

You can use a cuff that holds the gears together and deletes the fifth gear. This is for track only cars though. I mean you could drive it on the street but that would just suck.

Get it in writing if you buy the motor. Scare him with having it notarized (legally binding to the point it stands up in court). He's either full of ****, doesn't know what he has, or both. If you do scare him enough and he wants to sell it bad enough, the price he'll take may magicly drop a lot. B16B's main feature is longer rods using the same stroke, meaning a taller deck height is needed. A b16a2 would need a deck extension welded on & new sleeves put in.
I would advise not getting a 'built' motor from a **** like that though. It will have to be ripped apart and everything measured, or tuned with extreme caution. Assume its almost 13:1, adding timing until it knocks, then hoping the tuner can deal with the unknowns. Which they HATE, and charge accordingly.
Anyways, a b16a2 with a CTR crank and CTR pistons is just that - just another b16, but with slightly higher compression and slightly lighter (maybe) and better-balanced crank. Depending on what he will take for it, its probably not worth any more than a gen1 B16A.
