automatic w/ forced induction?
hey guys,
i just purchased a 2005 honda civic ex with an automatic transmission. i dont have the money or the desire to purchase a new car with a manual or do a conversion to a manual. i am simply wondering if forced induction or nitrous oxide works with an automatic. everyone says to start over with a new car in manual. this is my daily driver. i want it to be fast and just want to know what my long term options are. thanks guys.

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
i heard autos can handle about 200whp. i hear a new aftermarket high performance torque converter would help it handle more

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
yes you can
i currently have a 2002 civic dx auto turbo
stock transmission will only hold 160whp (about 6psi on a t3 super 60). (i am currently on my third tranny in about 4 years) biggest thing is to try not to boost thru gears (as in, let off the gas when its about to switch)
as for tuning, i am tune with greddy e-manage
so does it work? yes
is it worth it? depends how you want to use it and how deep your pockets are
would i do it again? probably not

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
thank you very much. this is the answer i was looking for. boosting my car will most likely not be anytime soon but i wanted to know if the potenial was there. would i be correct in assuming that nitrous oxide would be an option then as well? as long as it was set at a 30 to 35 shot? once again thank you very much the help.

Yes it should I had a turbo on my gf's integra that was auto. It lasted for three years and I only had one tranny the original. The only prob was I didn't. Have anyone to tune it. But I was running a greddy kit on 7psi and it was fun

You can also send out a new converter rebuilt with a different stall rate to swap in to handle more power. Autos are great with boost as they stay in boost on the shift.
As far as tuning, Usually any good tuner who also tunes other car brands should have experience with tuning automatics. Just need to search around..

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
^^^EXACTLY it almost a manual on what to do and what not to do on a turbo auto.
im guessing the tranny ran you atleast on the low end $800x3=$2,400?. wouldnt it have made since just to either buy a auto or do a conversion?. and if you put the tranny in yourself then you could have easily converted it.
best bet go buy a fancy intake and exhaust and enjoy that

Im guessing if anybody decided to turbo a auto honda its more less to say you have turbo on a automatic honda correct?. especially if you really are serious on making good power and running a good pass. i dont know to many ppl building cars especially turbo to run 14sec.

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
the real reason i guess i would have for boosting my auto honda would be to say: "yes its and automatic and yes its fast." everyone says i should start over with a manual. i don't deny it would be better in every way, shape, and form; but i didn't have much of a choice. i needed a car right meow and i got lucky getting a honda, and i don't know how to drive manual yet. its my daily driver, i want it to be fun. in the later years i would like to swap the motor for a k series and do a manual conversion. but for now i am trying to learn what my options are. i really appreciate all the input and advice. i love cars, but im definitely a newb. thanks again.

Re: automatic w/ forced induction?
the only reason i want the trans rebuilt is because i want it shifting faster between gears, the trans has 200k on it, and despite the fact that it handles the abuse just fine, you can feel that its getting tired. Like i say to anyone who cares to talk **** about it being automatic, id be happy to race any time they please, but somehow they always wind up making up excuses because their 1.6 liter d series has just an intake and a huge greddy fart cannon on it and they know deep down in side the 5 speed wont make up for it.
