ATTN: Honda Tech Vendors, Protect Yourself ... READ
About 3-4 weeks ago we got screwed by a fraudulent CC order. "Steve Vinision" ordered a Skunk Exhaust and Apexi VAFC. We sent it out and found out about a charge-back to our account about a week later.
NJ Police Department called and did a little investigation, there wasn't much to go on, so we did not expect much. A couple days later, we get another 2 online orders for a "John Clark" with 2 different billing addresses and two different shipping addresses to generally the same area as the first order for steve.
After our IT guy did a little digging on Yahoo Maps and people seach, we find the addresses are within about a 2 mile radius, and the dude(s) were using a dial-up account to access our site. With this new nugget of information, I called my contact at the Perberton Township Police Department and gave him everything I had. The converstation ended and I felt much more confident about catching our new best friend.
It has been about a week since then and "John" has been inquiring about his order every couple hours by e-mail. So I drafted and sent him this sweet message:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">We didn't send it and we are never going to.
Unfortunately it is against the law for me to send you a box of newpaper and have the police pick you up when you go to UPS to get the package. Just know that the pemberton township police department is looking for a little delSol with a brand new Skunk exhaust on it. And, the next time you try to rip off a company and have some other people pay for your mods you should not use your dial-up account. And having 6 different addresses within a 2 mile radius wasn't the smartest thing either, oh, and crossing state lines made it a Federal Crime. And, I almost forgot, since you got $800 and attempted for close to $3K it is a felony.
Better sleep with one eye open, or move to Canada.
Cheers!
Kyle

I can't reveal any more details right now, just thought it was a good story for those of you selling (anything).

Would it be illegal to send him a jar of vaseline and just claim it was a shipping error? C'mon, I think the police would have to see the humor in it.

Gotta give it up to my IT guy, he went the extra mile to help with this clown. When he gets caught I know who to thank. Thanks.

well when i buy **** online they usually wont ship unless the billing and shipping adresses are the same, and on one of the things i purchased last week for my new turbo setup they even called to verify that i had placed an order with them etc etc...
anyway it really sucks that people are trying to rip you off....they will eventually pay when Karma kicks then in the *** (well maybe not kicks )....

thats some bullshit, hope they catch the little turds.
guess better it was only a exhaust and what not... what if the numb nuts orders a turbo kit right off the bat.
the police are in the ice ages for internet related events.
cant you find him by contacting the isp and giving them the ip, location, and time it took place generally when the "person/s" were on.

It's kinda crappy you couldn't ship him newspapers (or a bag of ****) and let the police catch him in the act. You would think the police would want you to do that and help catch criminals, not give them lots of leeway in ripping people off

If you want to sell online, you have to use one that will integrate with your shopping cart. If you don't you can just go to a local bank.
We are currently using auth net for online and offline transactions http://www.authorize.net When the new website comes out we will be switching to verisign for both online and off.

sorry to hear about that kyle.
Id do it anyways, and instead of having the cops wait for him to pick up the package, id just go there myself (or have someone else if he lives far away) follow him and find out where he lives, then send the Po Po's to his place.

It's people like that ******* that make my life a living hell when I order something. Most of the time I have to have my stuff shipped to my work address and of course its not the same as my billing address so most of the time I can't order I'm glad you got that ******* and I hope the cops catch him too.
