i know man i was just messing around! im 22 have been in for three years and my AFSC is Airtransportation journeyman. ( i load planes) its funn im getting out though, in 3 more years. what feild are you going into?

no, it's just that I havce spoken to many builders and machine shops and every one of them seems to have a different opinion on balancing and etc..

I see some good points from Earl here, makes ver much sense about the flywheel and clutch...

well, I'll find out more tmw as I may get my crank balance, and post it here...

jet engine mechanic. i am going in thru one of my dad's former recruiters (my dad just retired), and have to get a waiver thru the colenol (who is AWESOME!).

can't wait to get out of this **** hole utah, just waiting for my motor and study a lil for for ASVAB

how'd u do on ASVAB and how was basic training?

To balance a rod, a balancing shop will weigh the rod on a special scale and machine material off both the small end and big end to make them all the same weight. Normally taking the weights from the lightest small end and the lightest big end and machining the rods to match that number.
If anyone cares at this point, the way you balance rods is to weigh the big end first. This is done by supporting the small end in a fixture to isolate it from the big end. Weight is then taken off the rod caps until all big ends match in weight. Then you weigh the whole rod and take weight off the top to match the overall rod weights. Most aftermarket rods come pretty close in balance from the factory.
