Anyone know which IHI turbo is in the APEXi kit for d16's, and where you can buy just the turbo from?
I only want the turbocharger, not the entire kit. IHI seems to use RHB, RHF, RHE, to designate different turbo sizes, so which of these would be the equivalent of what is in the APEXi kit?

I think you misunderstood my post, I don't want the kit, just the turbo. As far as the AX53B60 P18 turbo, I already knew that information, but I was not sure that was APEXi designation for it, or IHI the manufacturer of the turbo. IHI seems to use RHF, RHE?
I guess what I really need to know, is where can you buy new IHI turbochargers? Sorry if there is a really obvious answer to this, but it is escaping me. (I don't know much about turbo's in general, but even less about IHI specifically.) If I am being a nuisance, I won't bump this thread anymore.

Thanks for the link, I actually checked that out already. Im just having a hard time making the connection between what is in the APEXi kit, and what they offer? Maybe Im retarded.
One last go around, and I'll let this thread die in peace.

I have been trying to find specs and info on the turbo as well, and the best I have found is that it is a hybrid IHI hot side and Apexi exhaust side. Or I may have that reverse, either way, it's specifically made just for the kit. I called apexi-USA and they would not part. The turbo is basically a RHF 5 (so I was told) so if you really just want the technology behind that turbo I would say that's the one to get. I'd try getting one from anyone that sells IHI. Here is an email I got from a friend that might help too:
I was reading a book by Mika Kojima and he talked briefly about the Apexi
turbo kit. He basically said it was super high tech and could flow very
well while being able to spool quickly. It's even better than the
technology in the Garrett GT series turbos. The abradeable seal is the real
technology that sets it apart. There is a teflon coating on the compressor
housing that when new actually scraps against the compressor wheel. After
break-in, the teflon is abraded down by the wheel making for a very tight
tolerance between the compressor wheel and the housing. This makes it very
efficient.
Good luck

Thank you very much for the help. Any little info at this point helps, and just to get a sense of what size it is (RHF5) is a huge help. I don't think IHI lists info on that turbo in the Apexi Kit.

Apexi turbos are from the IHI RX series but use the "AX" designator. AX is for Apec spec turbos.
Apex AX6 is an RX6
APex AX5 is an RX5

APex AX5 is an RX5

I think that would be me, I think that the rhb5's I referred to are the predecessors to the rhf & vf's like the kind used in the apex kits & wrx's. The turbo I have is small but it boosts quick, I just don t notice it as well cuz I have 4wd and an automatic, once running or on a roll if I ounch it it spins pretty quick
, just that I'm still in the rudimentary stages of my swap.
If you search ishi or rhb5 there are maps available, I just can't remember where, also ishi does have a site

Here you guys go. A link for compressor maps and ARs, CFMs, trim, ect.(MOSTLY COMPRESSOR MAPS)
http://not2fast.wryday.com/turbo/maps/all.html
You're gonna need a fast connection otherwise the maps are gonna take a while for it to load.
Click on IHI at the top and it'll bring you to the IHI compressor maps along with a chart on the specs.
