apexi ax53b60
I've just bought an apexi ax53b60 turbo kit.
What sort of power should I expect from a b16?
I have forged pistons and rods. ARP studs.
Stock cylinders.
I know it's quite a small unit.....do you think I could get 300+hp?
Thanks.

Re: apexi ax53b60
I found this. Not sure how accurate it is.
It's a ball bearing turbo made by IHI
Compressor Trim: 57
Compressor Inducer(mm): 46
Compressor Major(mm): 60
Turbine Trim: 82
Turbine Major(mm): 53
Turbine Exducer(mm): 48
Exhaust Housing A/R: .71

If its a T3/T04 57 trim .63ar turbo, you should easily be able to make 300whp (9-11psi)...the standard Garrett version is a 54lb/min turbo capable of ~520-540hp (less frictional losses for whp)

Re: apexi ax53b60
It's really hard to find any info on this turbo.
I think it might be a T25 or T28, but I will measure tomorrow.
Seeing that the turbine flange is smaller, what power should I expect?
Thanks for your help.

Measure it. I was basing my post on the 57trim portion, as well as the look of the turbo in the picture above. If you measure it, you will have concrete proof.
PS, the link above is in (mm)

Re: apexi ax53b60
if it is anything like the apexi turbo that was made in japan and brought to us for the d & b series engine i'm familiar with it.
I bought it and had in the garage for 7yrs... waiting for the day i would install it on my gsr. In 2011 when I finally decided to build up my car, I realized that even before i went turbo, i already out grew it, my expectations changed over the years.

But that doesn't mean I still don't want to use it.
I would probably pick this turbo again if I did it over again & had goals of under 260-270whp.
Could this turbo make 300whp on a Bvtec? maybe but honestly doubt it cause the turbo would be screaming for it's dear life needing +20psi... but at least have a nice lowend midrange tq band even if the power tappers off around 7000 the power tappers off.

This is a nice, little responsive bugger that is about the same responsiveness as a GT2860R (notice I didn't say GT2860RS, about 36lbs/min..
Its not quite as efficient as a GTX2860R (which is even nicer at about 42lbs/min with its 58 trim 11-bladed forged aluminum wheel),
The turbo itself that you have from IHI is good to about 350whp at its absolute maximum of about 30-32psi of boost pressure, so unless using this for a nice lower power D-series setup, you'll run out of breath pretty quickly with this trying to get 300whp. But it is a fun little toy of a turbocharger.

Ah, I figured you'd jump in with the real info at some point. I see 57 trim and .63ar (coupled with the pic above) and assumed it was the standard, run-of-the-mill T3/T04 57 trim. I dont have the inducer/exducer numbers engrained in my brain like some people
