Default Anyone using SAAB intercoolers?

I have a SAAB intercooler I pulled from a 900 turbo when I got my turbo. Has anyone used it? It's really big. In fact it's as big as a radiator, I just didn't know if anyone has gotten it to fit into their car. I'm puting it into a CRX.

i just bought one that should be shipped out today... its going in a '91 hatch. from what i understand its smaller than a starion ic, so it shoult fit fine... the guy i bought it off had it on his crx zc, and said he had it side mounted where the resonator box goes.

It won't fit as a FMIC. It could be made to, but you have to mod the endtank inlets.

Someone posted pics of one positioned in place of the stock airbox in one of the GRM $2003 Challenge cars, the hood had a scoop right over the airbox/battery area to shove air down thru the IC. Fairly trick use of cheap jy parts, I wholeheartedly approve.

But you dont think it would fit in the front? It's too big to fit on the side where the resonator goes. It's as big as a full radiator.

My suggestion is to cut it in half or 2/3 of it, and get caps and end tanks welded onto it.

The first one is from a Volvo.

The Saab 900 core looks like this:

The earlier ones are of the same design, only use metal end tanks.

It is not 2-3 feet wide, and it will fit in the area of the stock airbox + battery, if you remove them. It is too tall, with those endtanks + how the inlets are positioned, to be mounted in the front of the car.

If anyone has any Q's about OEM ICs... check Here.

here's mine, the older saab 900 ic:

i'm thinking of just doing custom endtanks/inlet/outlets and front-mounting it.

Those dual pass Saab ICs really suck as far as flow goes. Look at the "turn around" end tank and tell me that it flows well... Remove those end tanks, and weld on some new tanks that make it a single pass, and it'll flow fairly well, but probably won't do that good of a job since the rows don't have any real turbulators to speak of.

Yeah I think mine is a SAAB 9000 turbo intercooler. It's huge as you see. Do you think I could make that fit into my CRX? And I didn't know you could cut them and stuff like that. Who would be able to do that? I paid $40 for that 9000 intercooler from a junk yard.

if they have metal end-tanks, then you can cut it. If not, then just sell it on Ebay, or get it to fit in there...
