Anyone try the spoon thermostat and coolant sensor?
Has anyone tried the spoon thermostat and coolant sensor combo with an accurate water temp guage? What were your results before and after the upgrade? Thinking of getting these and was wondering if it worked, or would I be just paying for the Spoon name. Thanks.

Well for example, the Spoon thermostat is like $65 and the Jackson Racing one is $8.40. You tell me if it is paying for the name. With Spoon, you're always paying for the name.

I didn't know Jackson Racing made a low temp thermostat. I know you can buy low temp thermo's at the local auto parts store, but who knows how good they are and how reliable also. I was just curious to see how much lower the coolant temp is with the upgrade.
Thanks for the info on the Jackson one though...I would trust them more than the basic low temp thermostat AutoZone sells.

Re: Anyone try the spoon thermostat and coolant sensor? (FBP Si 2000)
I just ordered the Jackson Racing thermo. It was total to my door $14.50 and is a 160 degree thermo. I figure I'll have to pick up the Spoon coolant temp sensor because I don't think anyone else makes one, and if I don't I may have problems because the ecu will be reading the coolant temp as too low.
For the record, I believe factory temp is 180 so 160 should be nice.
Also, installing a thermostat is nothing. Probably 30 min at most!

I don't think the sensor is "necessory" with the low temp thermo, but the way I see it...it can't hurt!
I got the jackson racing one from their webpage here... http://www.jacksonracing.com/pages/acurapps/tstat.html

an stuck open or gutted thermostat will flow water too fast through the coolant system..
there will be no heat transfer from the engine to the coolant.. so your coolant gauge will read nice and cool but you aluminum block is frying to hell!

not really, what really flows water too fast is no thermostat. if you gut one, then it will cool properly. i know from experience.
