Anyone tested the effectiveness of speedbasedboost?
So, coming off the transmission and traction topic, has anyone actually used either a GReddy remote switch, AVCR speed based boost, or similar device at the track? For example, you would run a lower boost pressure at lower gears, and increase as gears allow traction. I'm curious if anyone has done this VS just running high boost all the time and modulating the gas for traction. Thanks!

hehe like said in the transmission topic. longer gears are the last way u should ever think about achieving traction. i think turning down the boost should go 2nd to last.

yea I've done this with the profec B but it wouldn't be consistent so I got a AVCR mainly for that reason. Hell of a lot better, less things to worry about.

by consistant, what do you mean? When you switched from low to high boost, did you incur spiking? I've always used the profec B with great success, from mild boosted apps all the way up to 30psi+ monsters. But I'm always open to new ideas, thats what keeps me on top

I have a .7 bar spring in my tial 46....no traction till top of 3rd unless i use part throttle. I've had enough so I ordered a .5 the other day from Viren. I'm hoping I can keep traction at 7 psi. The reason I did this was specifically so I can try and utilize the AVCR boost/gear function. I will let you know how it goes....I may have to get the .4 bar instead.
It's pretty weak when your honda is faster at 60% throttle then at 100. I'm hoping to do something like 7psi in 1st, 8psi top of second, 10psi in third.... See how it works.
EDIT: I just modified my order through Viren to start with the .4 bar spring. I want to start as small as possible...and tune the avcr to be on the virge of traction the entire ride. A compeltely different demension of tuning.

hehe. before u turn down the boost make sure u have tires that can grip. at 237ft/lbs of torque i couldnt even scratch 2nd w/ BFG's on my car.

I have the new bfg g-force TA drag radials on there now..... I thought they were supposed to stick! 10 psi in the crx skips them easy...

Gotta love the Vehicle Speed vs boost table in the AEM
Can't wait to mess with the AEM when I get it !

The beragnholtz's do it by useing their avcr running it off the tranny...it really helped them out.

WOW CRAZY. mine stick perfectly fine. maybe its the wieght, what u running for suspension?

John, i've tinkered around with the gear based settings on my AVCR. With my B16, i could never get traction in first coming out the hole so i tried to lower the boost down to 8psi in first. My AVCR holds max boost like a champ, but i couldn't get it at exactly where i wanted to with the gear settings. It would spike a little to 9/10 psi. It helped a little bit, but would still spin on the top end. This was on street tires mind you, so i think if you combine that feature with slicks it would really help your traction issues.

Now if we could tie in the ABS sensors from the back wheels...
But that's not going to happen until version 0.97324, which will be out in "a couple of weeks"

Re: Anyone tested the effectiveness of speedbasedboost? (Prod)
Yeah but the speed sensor is going to think the car is going faster under wheelspin. You'd need to monitor the ABS wheel speed sensors to know whether VSS speed was actual ground speed...
That's why I'm keeping my AVC-R. I think gear based boost is a much better idea because torque at the wheels is what determines traction. Don't let supra guys on the AEM site tell you that speed is what determines traction (their example: You won't break the wheels loose in 3rd gear from a roll on the freeway... haha... it's cause you're in 3rd gear!)

Now that look again, I think you're right Dustin
Wonder if one could hook up the ABS sensor to the speedo port on the EMS, the value is scalable so I guess as long as the ABS sensor is sending data constantly that could be used...or maybe just put a vss sensor on one of the rear wheels (looks like I'll be visting the ems forums again)
