End play how? Like you can wobble the rod a little bit when torqued down?

so the eagle rods clearances play on the connecting rod should be the same as factory rods spes? if that is true, i think there is something wrong with my crank or rods. when i slide an .012in feeler guage to the side of each rods. there are more play clearances than normal. could there be something wrong with my crank? reason for taking apart the motor because the motor seems to be knocking.

Its supposed to wobble a little bit. As long as your bearing clearances are in spec and torque to spec, forget about it.

There is a difference between crank end play and rod side clearance. Neither one effects the other. End play is how much the crank moves forward and backward in the block. It can be checked with or without the rods installed. Rod side clearance is the gap between each rod and the side of the crank. If you have a rod eating itself up, you can have a larger side clearance. A rod inspection will probably show the problem.

i'm talking about rod side clearance. the play just seem to be more than normal. unless eagle rods have its own clearance or the rod is thiner where it holds to the crank. the eagle rods thickest measure to be the same as some ls crower rods i have laying here. are the stock ls rods and the ls eagle rods be the same thickest and diameter? will having to much play cause this knocking noise? the rods and bearings look to be fine. since the motor is apart now. does anyone have the piston to wall clearance for cp piston(81mm). im going to check over the motor. what should i check for that can cause the knocking noise. unless it could have just been the piston!!

you mean wobble more than specs is ok.. i forgot to measure exactly how much play it had before i took out the all rods. i know it was more than .012inches

does the factory rods and eagle rods have the same rod play clearance on the crank?? i know that .06 to .012inches is for factory rods.

CP clearance should be between .003-.0035" clearance. If you are more than .005" or so, that could be the source of the noise.

measure the cp clearance and found out that it was only .010-.013 ???
AND also found out that all the rods were backward

you measured the pistions and cyl and you had .019-.013? if so way to much clearnace should be .003- .0035 like earl said.

i dont think you can put a rod in back wards but most people put the tangs towards the exaust

piston bore measure:
4 80.94mm
3 80.92
2 80.93
1 90.94
piston measure:
4 80.87mm
3 80.87
2 80.87
1 80.86

all the tangs were facing the intake side!!

Based on your posted mm numbers, piston to wall sounds fine

The tangs on the other side shouldn't cause any noise. And .07mm=.0027" so that's not your noise.I've heard engines with a lot of side clearance and never heard and noise.

what can the noise be coming from. im thinking the bearings is the only thing left. all the bearing seem to look ok. but it was never plastic guage. all acl stardard. could they still look ok and be off clearance? what is the rod to crank play clearance from side to side(eagle rods)? was measure more than .012inch play
