Anyone ever use their AEM EMS when they were stock/slightoly modded?
Hey Everybody,
I was wondering, did any of you install your EMS prior to installing your turbo, and using it as sort of a VAFC? I was thinking about installing the EMS without the turbo and mess around with the EMS' features and to improve my fuel maps a little to get a few extra horses.

I think it's very smart in fact to learn how to use the EMS before you turbocharge the car. Gives you some time to play with all the mapping before you are at any real risk of blowing your engine (not that there is NO risk... you screw up bad enough and you can still fry your engine without boost) but it's a lot more forgiving and you'll be a lot less frustrated when you get your turbo in place; it will just take that much less time before you're all tuned and ready to go.

Cool thanks for the input guys...Wild Rice, did you make up your own maps from scratch or did you use somebody elses and just tweak it a little?
thanks
EDIT: I think I'm gonna use a base map for stock F22 from the EMS site, JP says it's the best one they have for a stock H22.

BS:
for timing: i used the timing maps out of a stock honda ECU for my engine as a reference.
for fuel: automapping.

whats required to install the EMS? is it pure plug and play, pull ECU out and stick EMS in? no other leads to hook up?

along a similar note: Im planning my turbo project on my GSR. I originally was going to go with the standard route of a a V-AFC and a ACR Boost controller to optimize my FI setup. But I had decided my future plans would include some kind of standalone either Hondata or AEM EMS.
Should I just skip the Boost and fuel controller and go straight to the standalone? I know the EMS can do pretty much everything I need - fuel, boost controller, even launch control. Keep in mine Im completely new to tuning and all this. Im a little intimidated by the standalones.

also, where do you stick the unit in the integra? does it fit where the ecu was?
do i need any other maps that didnt originally come in the 1010 ems to make my 01 GSR run?

S2K saw as much as 25hp gains, NSX saw around 4hp over the stock ecu's.

Not to flame, but what qualifies you to make this statement. Do you work for honda?
The forced sk2's that ive seen dont produce that much power considering what they have.
I said thats a lot because im assuing the EMS was the sole modification on the car.

98Psi ITR: If you have something to discuss, you can personally IM me about it.
Back to the topic, I just tried to start with the EMS without loading anything on it and its not starting, so im guessing that something's got to be programmed onto it.

I know it sounds high, so I double checked. Its actually closer to 15hp stock motor. If you have a set of Toda cams and then switch from the stock ecu to the EMS it was closer to 30hp. Sorry.
