Default anyone damaged rods w/o damaging pistons?

We're excluding hydrolock situations.

Setup is either forged pistons and rods or forged pistons and stock LS rods (w/ ARP rod bolts).

I have a set of Eagle rods, but I'm not sure if I want to use them or use the money for something else. I'm looking for about 185 whp off the juice and about 250-275whp with some nitrous (very seldomly used). I usually baby my car, so there isn't going to be much abuse. Looking for the most economical build.

Has anyone managed to damage the rods w/o damaging the pistons by either high rpm, detonation, extreme heat?

Since you are throwing forged pistons in, you may as well put the Eagles in at the same time. Just my $.02

I wanted to make the build most economically-efficient. I could use the $300 on a pair of ctr cams rather than the rods if it's not necessary.

That would be a situation where the rods gets damaged w/o hurting the pistons, but I meant where a forged rod would prevail over a stock ls rod. I think that a spun rod bearing would happen to both the forged and stock rods. I was wondering if there's a situation where the forged rods would not get damaged but the stock ls rods would (without the pistons being damaged).

I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the advice.

Anyone seen or experienced a broken rod w/o piston damaged? I'm sure quite a few people have blown up there motor in here.

I've melted a few pistons without damaging rods, does that count?

how do you melt pistons, and can a motor servive detonation? how do you know where to stop tuning before det happens?

pistons -> detonation/heat
rods -> power

Also, rods and pistons will die if oil deprivation is present

hrmm i'll add my 2 cents since i've blown up 2 motors.. on was hydro lock.. it threw a rod didn't damge anything else.. other then a hole in the block.. piston's were fine..
2nd was the wrist pin locked up for whatever reason.. it ripped itself right out of the piston itself and landed on my front crossmember??.. lol personaly.. in a nitirous application, i'd choose pistons over rods.. in a turbo application i'd choose rods or pistons.. but i don't think u can put after market rods with stock pistons but if u could i would. so yeah, u could proable snap a rod, and the pistons would still be ok i would think
