Default Anybody shorten an intercooler?

I have a fun application for a shortened intercooler. The thing doesn't even need to work that well, or hold air that well. But a good effort needs to be made.

I've never been inside one. Can they effectively be shortened?

Smallest ones I can find are 27x5.5x2. I'd like to shorten it up to say 18x5.5x2.

Searched around. Nothing cheap, "off the rack" so to speak. This is actually something we are mounting on the front of a video game cockpit, and are actually going to pump air through it for ventilation. So cheap is okay. eBay finds are probably the best bet, but nothing that short. I can weld it, IF that kind of thing can be done. I don't want to hack a $100 intercooler to find out that's not how it's done.

That's why I'm asking.

Yep, for that game chair cockpit. But keep that on the "down low". It would be funner to just have that show up in the thread if we can make it work. Cockpit is 30" wide. Most intercoolers are 27-28" but the connections are facing out. If they were facing back, or up, they would work.

I just don't want to cut one up if it's just not possible to weld it back together in a smaller size. I've never been inside one.

I don't have a problem welding it. Just worried that there is some mechanical reason not to do it. Hate to buy the thing, cut it, and find out it's like cracking an egg, it's meant to be the size it is, can't re-assemble it. Kind of a deal.

Part of the design needs to compliment the build. Long and flat, compliments the build.
