Default Anybody interested in a ZIF socket for your Hondata?

LATEST INFO:
http://216.219.200.135/honda

I am going to start selling some little cool odds and ends soon. I've got some small 28 pin ZIF sockets coming that SHOULD fit on your ECU without modification. In other words, you can either solder it to the board, or plug it into your existing 28 pin socket.

These are small enough that you should not have to have a stack of sockets piled up for the ZIF to clear the surrounding components.

For those of you that don't know, a ZIF socket has a little lever that releases the chip, so that a chip puller is no longer needed...you know when you tune your Hondata it's such a hassle pulling the chip out over and over while trying not to bend the pins.

Email me at stupidfastind@attbi.com if interested. I'm planning on ordering a small quantity, but will order more if there is enough interest.

Target price is gonna be about $9 shipped.

Thanks! As far as I know, I have not seen anyone else do this. I cut out a cardboard cover at first, just to protect my ecu a bit while I tuned my car with the ECU on the floor, then figured why not transfer that to the actual cover. I put the ZIF in the ECU and took some measurements and then starting cutting with the Dremel. I can datalog with the ECU mounted in its stock location......nice and clean and out of the way.

btw...Farnsrocket gave me a good idea so I will probably be stocking the sockets so you can stack them and cut the hole in the ECU cover. I knew the Hondata Stage 4 came with 4 sockets and a ZIF, but I didn't realize the intention was to let you get to the chip with the cover on.

Don't worry, the sockets are DIRT cheap.

Hehe I'll probably sell the sockets for like $2 for 4 with a ZIF, depends on how many I buy.

As far as the ZIF, the regular ones are cheaper, I might get those as well. For some reason the smaller one costs a good deal more hence the higher price. Since everybody seems to like the exposed chip idea, I'll probably just get the regular ones and bundle them with the sockets.

I don't know why I didn't think of doing it like that, Mustang guys have been doing it for years on their EECs.

I've been looking for someone that has these forever. Rocket told me he could get them but I never heard anything. A fried of mine has one, they are nice to have.

they're not hard to find if you do stuff in electronics. hatchblack will probly buy a bunch and get a cheap *** bulk price, so it will be a good hookup.

the zif sockets are a good idea, but theres no way i'd ever want the chip permanentely exposed to the outside like in the above pic simply due to the fact that its placed in a shielded metal box for specific reasons from the factory

however if the zif was kept internally sealed from the ouside, then i'd say it would be really nice to have.

depends on the grade of the chip.....some chips will fry if you fart on them, others you could hold a lighter to....I dont know anything about those chips so I couldnt tell ya, but I'm willing to bet that as long as you keep it in the car you wont have a problem.

I'm sure there's no problems doing it since Hondata includes this setup with their high end boxes.

Either way, I'll sell them with or without the regular sockets.

Yeah man, that is not going to hurt the chip or the ECU. The ECU is on it's side when it's mounted so nothing can fall into it and and the lid is touching the ZIF all the way around it.

I did the same thing w/ my ecu cover a while ago but I didn't quite use as many sockets and stack it as high because it interferes with the kick panel plastic cover if it sticks up that high. Mine sits slightly higher than the ecu cover making it easily accessible still.. Unfortunately I don't have any pics but you can get the idea.. Zif sockets sure make it easy and simple to remove and reinstall the chip.

I need to pick up another zif socket and several chip sockets because I need to get another one.. Any chance you can post a picture of the zif sockets you'll be selling? Thanks.
