I'm about complete with everything needed for my turbo setup except the intercooler couplers. Is there any tubing that I could buy somewhere that is much cheaper and works? I tried searching but didnt come up with anything, I remember someone posting a replacement but I couldnt find it...any help would be great...

 

yea the ones from a hardware store will work just fine for low boost.

 

checked hardware store but no where here carries them in 2.5 inch...

 

you will find with the cheaper ones its not heat and oil resistant

 

You could go Home Depot for like 2-3 each.

Or you could go with real silicone from stealthmode for $27 shipped. set of 7.

Mileage may vary w/ Home Depot ones. 10psi here and no prob.

Just don't try to span a 2.5 inch gap with a 3inch long coupler. Kinda common sense... right?

 

How are the ones from stealth mode? Will they hold boost?

the key there is the elbows... I have been using one right off my turbo for some time now. But the heat will just put a hole right through them. They are perfectly fine with connecting straight pipes. With an elbow it puts to much stress and heat on one portion of the coupler, causing it to blow out.

 

go to NAPA and get 2.5 inch radiator hosing
11 bucks a foot
holds up to 40 psi

 

Somewhere in my database i sell couplers for big diesel turbos. Il look and get pricing. Some how i bet they mark that stuff way up. what sizes do you need?

Radiator hose works beautifully. As a bonus, it doesnt slip off the piping like silicone
couplers do. For a few years, i used radiator hose for entire sections of my charge
piping. A ton of factory turbocharged cars are like this, such as DSMs.

 

Another For radiator hosing...

HD couplers have worked fine for me, but I had to replace the one coming directly off of the turbo with radiator hose because it kept melting.

when i take apart my piping, its almost impossible to remove the damn couplers

 

Anyone know what kind of car or truck uses a 2.5" radiator hose with a 90degree bend?

 

my turbo to intercooler is 2 and my piping is 3 can radiator hose be used?

This is the way to go. The guys there are pretty cool about it most of
the time. I got most of my radiator hose at autozone and pepboys, and the
largest they had was about 2 1/4" (which was fine, since thats what i wanted to use
on my old setup anyhow). Im going to hit up napa and get some 2.5" straights
though

 

What a friend of mine and I have done is buy hose for boats that they use to run fuel and such and use as couplers they are great and are thicker then normal couplers and you can cut to fit! They have held up to 25lbs without a problem!
