Default Any benefit to using a large down pipe with small exhuast?

Is a 3" down pipe with a 2 1/4" exhaust system any better than using a matching 2 1/4" down pipe and exhuast? I'm not sure what changes this would cause, if any. I know upgrading to a larger exhuast is the easy answer, but im just curious.

Well i guess the problem is your not using the full potential of a 3inch dp. you can always run a 2 1/4 but that wont help with the spool time. Get at least a 2 and half exhaust piping.
