Default another thread re: block guards

Ok we all know a block guard is a cheapass option to properly sleeving a block.

now, I think most people, such as me who need a car on a daily basis, would be hard pressed to pull their motors and have this done. so the only option may be a block guard.

So, is a block guard better than nothing? if so, how can you prevent it from "dropping" down the cylinders without welding or punding it in.(can distort cylinders)

recommended brands?

What kind of HP can you expect to survive with proper tuning? Is it even worth it?

for those who elect the block guard route, what kind of tips do you have. (no smartasses thank you) I want this to be a helpful thread.

Thanks

I'm running an ARI block guard and had it welded in. It should be sufficient for the 400whp I'm pushing for, especially when combined with ductile iron big bore sleeves.

It was a lot cheaper than running Darton closed deck sleeves, and a lot more convenient than dealing with Golden Eagle.

it's not hard to weld it in, you dont have to weld it all the way around, just tak weld it in about 4 spots and thats it, just engough to keep it from moving. i dont have a block guard yet but i will be geting one when i build my new engine.
