another stupid overheating thread, please help!
Well, I have an SOHC greddy kit and FMIC. OEM rad and fan.
Car has been fine for months, no probs whatsoever.
Now, the car is not bubbling-over overheating, it just just pretty hot at idle AFTER you have driven it for awhile. (a bit over 3/4's on the gauge)
It has not bubbled over the overflow, it just gets full to the top.
I replaced the thermo and cap. no difference. bled system and new coolant.
When I bled the system with the cap off I filled it to the top.
When the fan kicked on the coolant level dropped, indicating the water pump is working.
No leaks of any sort.
Compression tested all the cylinders, she's healthy.
When it is sitting at idle and starts getting warm, the fans are kicking on.
The temp will drop at idle if I REV the motor a little (like 2-3k rpm.
Not sure if I need a water pump, or a daul core radiator. (or maybe just some water wetter and prop my hood for that jdm rice look
THANKS!

I would normally say replace your headgasket, but your saying it goes back down once it cools. I don't know... If you aren't hurting for cash, i guess i'd try a new radiator, just cuz that would be easier, and could be the issue. Either a dual core stocker, or get an aluminum one of ebay, no one usualy has complaints and they are cheap. Could be head lift under boost too.
If its getting hot while idling then it most likely isnt getting enough airflow across the radiator to cool the car down. If you are using an oem radiator and oem fan then your next step would be to get an aluminum radiator(fluidyne, koyo, mishimoto) and I would imagine that should solve your problems.

My B16A2 turbo does the same as this.It runs hot whilst going slow.My temp gauge never goes above half way,but the fan kicks in quite a lot more than when the turbo was not fitted. It's purely down to airflow through the radiator.I have a double core standard half size rad.
If I remove the front mounted intercooler my running hot issues go away,so I'm sure it's the intercooler obstructing airflow
.I bet yours will be the same problem
one thing you could check, make sure your intercooler cooling fins are not blocked.Check your rad also

is your fan stock? If not make sure its wired so it pushes or pulls the air through the rad and not against flow.
