Are all b-series oil pans created equal?
I am planning a turbo set up. I have been thinking of buying an extra oil pan to weld the fitting into, then saving my original in case I ever take it back to stock. So I know some parts will fit most any B-series motor and I was wondering if thats the case with the oil pan. I have an '01 GSR.
Will other pans fit?
If so, is any one better than another?

You are correct! I picked up an extra oil pan from a friend that works at a jy and told me my b18b is the same as a b16.

Reason why you can use a B16 pan on a B18A is neither has the block girdle the type r and gsr do have one so the pan sits lower to clear it.

So, the problem is oil starvation then, not fitment? If so, can you use a GSR oil pan on a B16 if you have the GSR pick-up? That way you will eliminate oil starvation problems, correct?

Fitment is a problem when using an oil pan from an LS or b16 on a b18c block, because the LS, b16 oil pan will not fit. As far as using an oil pan from a b18c block on an LS or B16 block, you won't have a problem. I believe that when you use the aftermarket block girdles for the b18a,b20 motors, the B18c oil pan is required because of its design from the factory. HTH!

Well, I originally got the GSR oil pan, windage tray, and pick-up to be used with a girdle on my B16 then later figured a girdle on a B16 is not as necessary. So now, I would like to have the GSR oil pan welded with the oil return fitting, while I drive around NA with the B16 oil pan. My question is now, will the Gsr oil pan, GSR pick up, and GSR windage tray be fine on my B16 if I do not have a girdle? Sounds like the GSR would be the best pan out of the two for turbo apps..GSR = deeper = more oil in pan = better, is that true?

I've never had the oil pan off of a B18Cx to look at how they do the oil pickup tube, but if it's anything like the D-series you're in trouble.
D-series have different oil pans depending on whether the engine is girdled or not, and the oil pick up tubes are identical from what I can tell since they either bolt to the block or to the girdle. Running a girdle pan on a D-series without the girdle is a good wat to starve your engine for oil as the pickup won't be fully submerged.
I think some good info from the B18Cx contingent would be most welcome... anyone?

b18 to b18, b16 to b16 and so on.
they all suck in the long run though. If you want any kind of performance improvement, get something aftermarket that adds a quart of capacity and is aluminum
