Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on our coated Lovefab SST Manifold, Turbo Housing and Down-pipe Setup. This is going in a 2000 Turbo Integra Type R and the coating withstands up to 2000 degrees.

Maybe a dumb question but is it possible to do a clear heat coating? Looks great BTW

There is not currently a coating avalible for a Thermal Barrier that is clear, unfortunantly. There are some variations with color, but the black turbo coating that we use has the highest temperature handling that we have found in the industry.

those coatings are great , I had mine ceramic coated also, black 2000F .... the only problem is that when installing it or working on the car you have to be careful not to scratch the ceramic off ... because you can easily do so...

you can coat a cast manifold, benifits are very slight underhood temp drops and more thermal energy for your turbo....it should increase power a little- don't look for huge gains.
Other benefits are to prevent rust on mild steel exhausts or tubing and to prevent rust on the turbine housing.

I had my turbine housing done for 80 dollars and my lovefab sidewinder done for 100 bucks @ hyperkote (this is not typical , performance coatings quoted me 140, and hpc and jet hot both quoted me 180)....

yes all places will coat both and also bead blast beforehand when coating a downpipe or exhaust with aluminized ceramic coating .... when it comes to the turbine housing you can specify if you want it coating inside and out depending on how picky you are about the a/r ... its a extremely thin layer which really won't throw anything off , but some people are picky...

would it be benifical for the charge piping as well?
(basically to better retain the cool charged air from the fmic?

upper charge piping a little theoretically.... not enough to make it worthwile because of the limited amount of surface area in the upper charge pipe and the poor thermal conduction properties of mild steel charge piping ....

not worth it to coat the upper charge piping because of the following reasons

1) very limited surface area inside the pipe means little heat transfer
2) mild steel or ss piping is a poor conductor or energy unlike aluminum
3) when you are traveling above 40 mph the heat in your engine bay will be close to ambiant


it wont make a noticeable difference

We recently coated a Gruppe-S turbo manifold and downpipe along with a S-13 turbo housing. After 20 min of driving around town with mild boosting we were able to actually hold onto the turbo manifold, but could barley put our hands on the valve cover because it was too hot.

I heard that this is not beneficial to your valves..The pipe will retain too much heat inside(i guess thats the point of coating it) that when u turn off the car all that heat tends to take the Head as its new home, eventually damaging the valves..Thats why you couldnt barelly touch the Valve cover..Is this true?

Atleast i hear this about Header/Exhaust wraps...is it the same with coatings?
