To get air out of hte system people have told me to open the rad cap and turn the car on for a while and the air bubbles should come out.

Exactly what the man said, let it idle for a good 15 mins to get anything out...

Let it idle and wait for the fan to come on. When this happens the thermostat opens allowing coolant to flow. Keep filling until no bubbles. The best way is at a shop that has the fitting that hooks into the radiator cap. It creates a vacuum in the cooling system, then you suck up coolant. No bubbles. Cool Tool!!

depending on the engine, there is also a bleed valve on the top of the block which you have to open, just filling the radiator will not remove the air on top... which could lead to overheating, etc...
